This might sound like a random and left field question but do tan boots go with everything as do black boots? I'm thinking of getting a pair of tan Doc Marten style boots with no laces.

Don't go with grey.

Black goes with everything. Dark brown leather goes with everything. Tan... I'm going to say no.

It's up there with white athletic shoes for screaming "I'm an elderly American that just got off that tour bus over there".

The only real exception is hard core cowboy or hiking boots with E36 M3 or mud caked on them. They go with everything.

No woman in your life to ask these questions, eh?

Brown doesn't go with blue, at least as in slacks in a business casual sort of setting. And your belt should match your shoes. However, if you only wear them with blue jeans or blue collar work clothes, then it's OK. If you are a hipster then none of that matters.

I believe the opposite. Black doesn't go with blue. Brown goes with everything. If you want to see this circular argument in length go search here: ask andy about clothes

Also be prepared to want to kill yourself.

Brown goes with just about everything... but black.

Tan? Tan looks great with blue, but if you're asking shoe advice on a car forum, you're probably not going to want to try to pull that look off...

Stick with something that's more brown than tan.

As the resident no class low brow I might suggest that you wear what feels comfortable to you.

I wore bright brown (with a yellwish hue) alligator shoes with blue pants and a pale yellow dress shirt on my last date night and as big and lumbering as I am I have to say I felt like I was the E36 M3.

Be yourself, Screw convention.

But that's the height of style in the K'zoo area.

Y'know, this strikes me as the archetypal forum thread. Ask a question, get diametrically opposed answers and at least one that tells you you're asking the wrong question, maybe a couple completely off topic and at least one analyzing the thread.

All of which means the OP comes away no better off than if he never asked the question at all.

I personally dislike tan boots. Black or brown for me. Tan make me think construction worker or urban culture. That said, I have no taste, wear what you want.

Browns and Oxblood colours are becoming the standard with anything other than a black suit. The brown/earthy tone really warms up the look. Yes, you can all laugh at me for knowing this
