Just saw an add for it and a bit of googling later and it looks to be the real deal. The sad part is it looks like a lot of the programming is going pay to play. (The motor trend business model). It was not clear what will be left on cable tv. This is going to suck as I like a lot of the shows on Velosity.
I don't have cable, but it is still sad to hear. This lay to play thing is going to gain traction. People are ditching cable and the cable companies don't seem to want to give us what we want, a la cart stations.
They will die a slow death and be replaced by pay to play.

I actually pay for this, even though I have a huge aversion to such things, but in this case, I really feel that I'm getting good value for my money. I watch this stuff more than I watch anything else.
Hey, remember SpeedVision?
I'm in favor of pay to play. I have well over 100 channels of TV, and I watch about a dozen. Cant get rid of any package, because cable TV is an NFL socialist system that takes from ESPN and gives to Vision. . Give me a straightforward method of channel selection and an hour/daily/monthly payment and I'm happy.
If we could burn the CRTC at the same time, all the better.
CRTC =Canadian radio and telecommunication commission, the government agency designed to protect us from evil American influence, and to ensure Canadian content doesn't have to be competitive with properly produced product.

Is it true that radio stations have to play Gordon Lightfoot at least once an hour?

No but it is true that Canadian Radio has to play somewhere between 25%, 35%, 50% Canadian Artists.

This is how you end up hearing Gordon Lightfoot, The Bear Naked Ladies, and Nickle Back every hour.
Rush, on the hour, every hour.
Oh, you funny Americans. I could trot out a whole lotta well known Canadian artists you've never heard of on American radio.

I'd put Letterkenny up against any half-hour comedy being produced in America right now, especially the ones on the major networks.

I might welcome that. The top 40 drivel we get needs a break once in a while.
Hope they get rid of Texas Metal and Junkyard Empire for starters.

I like the stuff on motor trend enough that I'm considering shelling out my own money for it instead of mooching off someone elses ondemand account.
Well their originals at least, the stuff I didn't watch when it was on tv can piss off.
Also I like Gordon Lightfoot and would be pleased if the radio played more of him.

I'm pretty sure that's how Bob and Doug MacKenzie were born.
I heard an interview with Dave Thomas (not the Wendy's guy) and he said that the producers needed more Canadian content in their show. He said, "We thought it was a joke. Here we are, Canadians, doing a show in Canada, and they want more Canadian content? What do you want us to do, sit in front of a map of Canada wearing toques, drinking beer, eating back bacon and saying, 'Good day, how's it goin', eh?', and they said, 'Yeah, that'd be fine'."

Came here to say exactly that. And they could throw in "Bitchin Rides" for all I care.

That's it, I'm never crossing the border again. There's more than enough overrated crap on the radio here, without having to have that torture rammed down my throat every hour. Has anyone reported this scary tactic to the International court of human rights? It may contravene the Geneva convention as cruel and unusual punishment.
↑ - Not a Rush fan.

But if they were WELL KNOWN, we would have heard of them, yes?
Adrian_Thompson is apparently a huge Bryan Adams fan. Who knew?

Ouch, that hurts. OK, so I liked summer of 69 back when it was first in the charts, but was utterly sick of it six weeks later. Funnily enough I was discussing Adams with the spousal unit just the other day about how he became THE go to guy for movies for a while there in the early 90's. If I ever hear that god awful disney horse movie theme song again I may crawl through into the radio through the speakers, surf the airwaves back through time to fin him and strangle him before he ever wrote that annoying sappy crack for 5 year olds monstrosity of noise.
/End Adrian's (always correct) Op-Ed
For the record I actually like Bare Naked Ladies.
I liked Big Wreck in the 90's they're Canadian right? I don't know that I see much change with Velosity, I thought Motortrend already produced a bunch of their content?
