I know of one politician who doesn't lie......one. He will never get elected president because he doesn't tell people what they want to hear. (as all other politicians do) He ran in the last race and was the ONLY candidate warning about the impending financial crisis. The other candidates laughed him off the stage, and went on with their B.S. standard wedge issues (class warfare, immigration, gay rights)
His name is Ron Paul, and if he was "presidential looking" he'd have a real shot at winning this time around.
I don't think I'm alone in being disgusted by the current two party system. I also don't think I'm alone in yearning for a candidate who isn't completely full of E36 M3.
Hard-core conservatives will always vote with the GOP. Hard-core lefties will vote Democrat. The winners are decided by the middle. I think there is a real opening for a viable 3rd party candidate, as a ton of folks are fed up with the scum that inhabits our legislative and executive branches of government. Weiner is just another example in a long line of dishonest politicians. (on both sides) I'd be surprised if most of our lawmakers didn't have similar skeletons waiting to jump out of the closet.
I'd like to see him resign, but hell, I'd like to see them ALL resign!

If Jeff's opinion is anything like mine, he probably wouldn't have voted for Craig or Spitzer either before or after their respective scandals. In both cases, I wished the guys would have just said "yeah, so what, this is for me and my family to deal with" and went on with fulfilling the obligations they made to their constituents. After all, it's not the media or the opposing party's duty nor right to tell those citizens who should represent them. If the people he represents want to recall or vote him out, they can, and shouldn't have that choice taken away from them. If anything, I'd almost rather have a person with a little controversy representing me, because you know he's going to have to work twice as berkeleying hard just to have a sniff at re-election.

there's enough legislation already on the books. I'd prefer my representative to stand in the way of other's BAD legislation.

sniff of re-election?.......controversy? Wait, I get it, you must be from Washington D.C.
Marion Barry is pretty awesome.

I'm a Democrat, and I don't agree with Ron Paul on everything, but every time I see him I think we need more guys like him. He says what he means, and I agree, seems to be telling the truth most of the time. And it's surprising how often I do agree with him. If you told me a Republican had to be President, but I could pick which one, it wouldn't take me a second to name Paul.
We have one here in Colorado too. He was the Mayor of Denver and was just elected Governor. His name is John Hickenlooper. But I don't know if he'll ever run for national office for all the resons you cite. It's too bad, but I think you're absolutely right. Anyone who tells the truth pretty much all the time can not get elected. And again, as I've said before, they're not to blame. We are. They just play the game the only way we let them win it. Not enough people will vote for a guy who doesn't play the game. That's on all of us.
I just don't know how the news TV can keep a straight face , He is posting wiener piks I am just wonderin if Sahlens will take advantage of this

Or that Brian Williams thinks Sarah Palin screwing up the Paul Revere story is pertinent news, but the Weiner story wasn't so he didn't cover it.

I had a great conversation at a party last week with a friend who managed to convince me there may be just such a niche. I lean pretty hard left on a lot of stuff, but I think the biggest problem right now isn't in getting everybody else to lean my way, it's in having a functioning middle ground.
With everyone frothing at the mouth and committed to winning the support of their most fervent and vocal constituents, having representation with some small percentage of the votes in the middle could create a small party with a near-constant tie-breaker in their pocket.
Now we just need credible prime movers who can get people worked up enough to vote for reasonableness. (stifles facepalm)
Seems like most of the 3rd-party things we've been offered so far aren't in the middle. They're either off the left end, or off either the social or fiscal borders of the right...

No, he should not resign. It's a personal matter and has nothing to do with his job.

that is fine, but when it was brought to light, he vehemently denied it, even went as far as to feign offence at the thought that he would send pics of his peter via twitter.

I'm Bravenrace, and I approve of this message (and the beer, BTW).
Except! I think hard core conservatives are more likely to vote for Paul than vote Republican. Hard core Republicans will vote Republican, but most hard core conservatives know that the Republican party as a whole is no longer all that conservative. Paul is basically a Libertarian, and they are more conservative than Republicans.

President Hickenlooper? How unfortunate that would be...

It has to do with his character and honesty, which have a lot to do with how he does his job.

How does "fiscally conservative, socially liberal" = more conservative than Republicans?
Guess it just depends on how you define "Libertarian."

Time to PIMP HIS RIDE....
At least he should be moved around in this instead of a limo.
In reply to z31maniac:
From Ron Paul's website:
"Congressman Ron Paul is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited, constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies."
Sounds pretty conservative to me. A lot more conservative than the current Republican Party as a whole, which I see as fiscally and socially moderate. And the Ohio Libertarian party supported him in 2008.
If you desire more evidence, google "Ron Paul a Libertarian".
If Ron Paul is anything like his son, I sure as hell wouldn't vote for him.
