Wow, that does suck. Keep the spirits up and land on your feet. We'll be rooting for you.

Had a good meeting in Dallas. Nothing was offered at the moment because several things are Still up in the air. But I feel it went well. In the mean time I have five or six leads I'm going to chase down.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

That's some BS man. Let us know where abouts you are and we'll see if there's anything we can help line up for you.

Reminds me of the time I got fired the day before I was leaving for a 2 week vacation in Hawaii. This was after busting my ass for 2 months to finish a major project. My boss and his boss didn't want to wait to tell me after I got back. Great so instead of relaxing and enjoying myself I now have to "work" the entire trip trying to find a job, get unemployment lined up, calm the wife down, etc.

swede, that's better than how one employer I had (CGI, authors of the Obamacare website disaster) would do it. They would wait until you took your vacation and then on the day you got back tell you that you were fired. I saw it many times. It was so bad that when you took vacation, you better be logging into the network periodically to make sure you login is still working.

So sorry for your E36 M3ty situation.

Worse deal I was ever involved with was a company I worked for in England. They were downsizing and downsizing towards eventual bankruptcy and sale. One I my friends was in a group let go while he was on vacation, I was told, and when he called me I was the one to tell him. I wasn't in HR or anything, i was just his closest friend to the manager thought he'd tell me to pass the word along. Most unprofessional thing I've ever seen.

I'm in Central TX, Temple, Belton, Killeen and Waco are all in the potential work zone. Austin is close enough for the right opportunity. The issue is I transferred here for this position less than a year ago so I don't have many contacts in the area.

The suck has set in. We were in a big push to eliminate some debt so we don't have a ton of spare cash around. I've been so busy chasing leads down basically non stop since Monday, I'm taking this morning off. It's pissing rain and windy as E36 M3 so I think I'll stay in today and bang out some online applications.

I was paid more than my qualifications suggest so they kind of had me by the ball bag. I know I'm going to have to take a pay cut but I don't know if I should take a much lower paying job, just to get some money coming in or hold out for something closer to what I was making.

They are still trying to find a place for me in the company somewhere. Basically they said if I was willing to relocate to Dallas or Houston they could find a spot for me, however the spousal unit is very set on not relocating again. She is very happy in the job she has found and is very happy in the area we are in. There was some talk about having me commute in to either Houston or Dallas and house me during the week. However if that happens it would have to be short term and we would need to relocate in six months or so. But I was here in Texas for six months before the family moved down from TN and that sucked so I'm not sure I want to do that again.

Yeah, my Dad had that happen to him when he was younger. Needless to say he's always been a little gun shy about taking vacations since then.

CGI once fired my boss. When they fire someone, they send a Termination Request through the help desk ticket system. We ran or responded to the help desk ticket system, so all the tickets came through all of us, after which we would cancel access, disable ID's, etc. So, CGI fired my boss and first thing, sent a termination request through, which my boss got on his email, read and that was how he found out he was fired.

I hate the: "Less money now for sure, or wait for a chance of more money later" question. I'm always second guessing myself. Adding the stress of me usually being unemployed while I have to make it and it's enough to drive anyone crazy.

For me the job I take depends on if I pulled strings: If someone helped me get in the position then I'll take a living wage that just pays the bills. Stay there and develop contacts, scope the area, make a plan, and let the dust settle. THEN after about a year or so I start to put the plan into action. I hate leaving a job someone helped me get, but I figure 2-years is a good middle-ground.

If I did all the legwork, and I'm sitting on a good savings cushion, then I hold out for the best I can get.

You mentioned that SWMBO is in a happy place. Since relocation is out of the question (I'd definitely stay if the wife was happy), I'd take the first "good" offer you got and worry about jumping back up later. It'd give ya the opportunity to really scope out the area.

I have friends in San Antonio, but none in your specific line of work. If you'd like I can give them a poke anyhow just to see if they have a friend of a friend or something.

Cheers!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. So you're in the foundation repair business? Sounds like you've had plenty of construction experience.

If I were looking for something to keep money coming in, I'd look into being a construction materials testing technician. Testing soil and concrete. It's not the best pay in the world, but you have a lot of opportunity for overtime, and most engineering firms are looking for competent technicians. Just a thought. Hope something comes your way fast.

You know that the PCA is always looking for flaggers for their events. It's $100 a day for them and CVAR is $75. It's not live on money but it can help cover a little more of the gap with unemployment. Cresson and TWS are not too far from Temple.

I do the CVAR events for a little extra play cash every now and then.
