So when you need a AA battery for the remote. I worked at radioshack and would avoid any battery they sell.
Please, discuss as if it were about cats and dogs.

Avoid the big pack from Harbor Freight. They barely go a day in the wife's insulin pump, I certainly wouldn't trust my remote to them.

Radioshack batteries are duracell. Sales experience as you. I lean towards Energizer.
I found some batteries that were specifically made for low-draw items such as clocks and remotes. They last bloody ages in those types of devices. I forget the brand name, but the batteries themselves are canary yellow.
Duracell last forever in pretty much everything for me... they are physically larger than the other brands- of course the overall length is the same because of the size standards, but Duracells have more "battery" to them with a shorter stud on the + end. they also weigh more than the cheaper ones, which means they have more battery "stuff" in them..
For a TV remote? It doesn't really matter. It's not like it's a big tragedy if the batteries die...I just go to the drawer in the kitchen and get some more.

We dissected one at radioshack. Your weight theory doesn't add up. (Imagine stacking small cells rather than making one cell like the other company.)
The batteries that came in our TV remote have lasted 4 years... Doesn't really seem to matter what batteries you put in them at this point...
The batteries that came in our DISH remote lasted just north of 1 year... It's not that inconvenient to replace a remote battery once every year and a half...

Wife prefers energizer. They keep going and going and going.....

Get one that Plugs in. Then you won't have to worry about it going dead on you.

my experience is that the heavier batteries last longer.. i just replaced the batteries last year that Philips/Magnavox included with the remote for the dvd player that i bought from them in the winter of 97/98.. i don't know who made them, but those were some mighty beefy batteries that had Japanese writing all over them in addition to the Philips logo.
but since i can't get those Philips branded batteries at the local Wal Mart, i get Duracells on the rare occasions that i do need batteries..
Whatever Sam's Club sells in really big boxes. With kids and battery powered toys, we go through a E36 M3 ton of batteries. I think mostly they are energizers, but I will buy anything Alkaline, including the house brand-Member's Mark-- which comes in AA only IIRC.
Remotes are not a very demanding application. I've seen conventional carbon-zinc batteries last for years in them. Now a Geo-Trax locomotive, well that will annihilate a set (they take three at a time) of name brand AAA batteries in about 20 minutes flat!
Usually Duracell or Ikea batteries.
I've had pretty good luck with Ikea batteries, they're only $2 for 10 and last surprisingly long for being so cheap.
I use the $1 Panasonic batteries from Dollarama. Olden lady says the "remote" lacks intensity with rechargeables.

Maybe I should have posted this in the motorsports section....

I really don't care about them for a remote. Overall use. What's best? It was an example.
