Except (correct me if I'm wrong) you extract some extra "profit" by using the car on the street or racing it for a time before you sell it. Obviously, theirs is a setup deal for their TV show but they're out to buy and sell cars purely for profit-making potential. They're attempting to influence others to do the same.
Selling your cars at a profit, however small, is secondary to your original goal; providing editorial content and some laughs.
The end of episode one is always Mike coming in and saying
"Edd--you've done nuffing!!!" One day Edd is going to take a bat to him.
