Thank you though honestly it was all random.  I just wanted to see what options did what and get something running.

Going forward I like the 3 stages a week thing it seems to be a nice balance.

I think we could do more stages each week but would want to add a service in there somewhere- that said, three is fine by me.

LOL I fell off the track and died about 1/2 way through the first stage and was forced to retire.   Rip Dead Tom, Dead Tom's Dead.  Long John did not shoot him this time.

Ok I submitted a request to join.

I'm using my controller (Steam controller lol), so I don't expect to be a frontrunner, but it should be fun.  I screwed around in the free-roam area and it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.

Awesome I approved you.   We have a day or so until the end of the 2nd championship.   I'll spin up a new one right after.   Are we using the garage versions of our cars?  I'm wondering if I need to pay attention to the cost of cars for newer drivers.

I was hoping whatever you use is available right off the menu like free-play/time trial/whatever.  Spec car or whatever.  I don't have time to tune a car or play career mode to accumulate 3 bazillion credits.

Well, that was fast hahaha.  Thats my car flying off the track.  Terminal damage.

Honestly for now I would like to see Hardcore Damage off if possible.

Also note to self:  Do not just jump into the Lancia Stratos with no prep.  I had only played the game using the 115hp FWD Fiat, so this was a handful right off the bat.  I was already quite a bit back in sector one just from the car swapping ends a few times lol.

I did the same thing in the same way the only difference is I took the Renault 5 out for the first time.   I'm moderately sure it was even the same bridge.   Dirt Rally 2 occasionally when you leave the road at a very high height will just terminally kill your event.   I'm pretty sure it does this with or without Hardcore Damage on.   Most offs are not as punishing you can usually get away with a pretty heavy amount of mistakes.

I really enjoyed the "tightrope walk" that the class and hardcore damage choices forced you to do when going fast, but RWD is a rough place to start for people who haven't played much, maybe next championship we should go a little more "arcade" and do easier cars and minimal damage?

Well, there is still a bit of a tightrope walk even with hardcore damage off.  You still get damage, if you are hitting stuff, you are still slow, and an off will cost you 4 or 8 seconds to reset your vehicle.  Basically, if you are berkeleying up like that, you aren't going to win anyway.  But at least you can finish out the event and have some fun/compete with the other guys who also screw up.

I'm fine with RWD cars, I'll practice a bit more next time :P

Our local SCCA rallycross group just ran an event with the GTI, great car for beginners and pretty fun once you figured out how to throw it around.

That's a fair point, but I know personally I definitely hold back a lot more with hardcore damage on- with it off, I'm a lot more likely to try to be a hero and just accept that one or two 10sec reset penalties will be more than paid for by all of the flying 4/5/6s I don't lift for.

I'll happily change the damage if w decide to.  For this next event I will keep it but I did add service stops.  Those stops I think will be between the end of the 2nd and beginning of the 3rd stage.  I also set it up with H2 FWD cars in a slower tighter event and H2 RWD for the Monaro events the week after.   The H2 cars are imo some of the more forgiving to drive.

@proDarwin did you have to buy the Lancia in game for the last event or did you just choose it from the list?  In the single player career mode you have a garage and upgrade system but I don't think those are in use here.

Nope, all the suitable cars were available on the list.  I don't think the single player garage comes into play at all.

Question:  How are the brakes for you guys in this game?

I'm struggling with them.  They appear to binary.  I mean there are obviously different rates of slowing, but they lock almost instantly.  I tried a couple of different cars on the dirtfish free area and they lock up like crazy.  I decided to trouble shoot after I had been running a stage but several times I tapped the brakes lightly, started sliding, and let up but never recovered any grip.  Its very frustrating.

I have the sensitivity reduced and I even turned the force in one of the cars all the way down to low and the ABS up to max.  If I do a brake test on the pavement, the car still stops not-that-quick and leaves huge black skid marks.

I just went through steam and checked the controller and the left trigger is showing its full analog output (0-32k) over the range correctly.

The brakes are usually a little on the touchy side, but are pretty linear for me on PS4- sounds like something in your settings is screwy, like it thinks it's a keyboard input or something?

ProDarwin

Nah, there is a screen where you can verify the inputs and its working correctly.  I even had to put the saturation back to 100%.

I guess its just the way the game is and I need to get used to what feel like huge braking distances*.  FWIW, this is only at lower speeds.  I'll be going into a harpin or "1" and get on the brakes, it will lock really badly.  I'll let off and even with the wheels turned it feels like it just slides forever, whether I apply power or not.  Guess I just need to learn to brake earlier

*My only recent frame of reference is PCars though, where 1) there are brake markers and 2) everything is on sticky rubber.

Even on tarmac, things do feel a lot "looser" than they do in any of the road racing simulators, so that might be what you're picking up on.

The Lancia is also kind of like that.   It gets really upset about throttle and brake inputs.  A bit too much and your gonna understeer everywhere and if you bounce the suspension right when you get on the throttle your gonna loop it.   In the next Championship 2nd week when we goto Monaro use the Ford Escort.   It has to be in the top 3 for me of available cars.  You can just launch that thing through corners and balance on throttle and it doesn't care how clumsy you are it just responds.

For the first week I'm not sure.   I haven't driven any of the H2 FWD cars but someone said the Golf is pretty good.

I have to admit, the UI for this game confuses the E36 M3 out of me.

When I first started playing, I went into 'events' and 'career rally' and there was a choice of where to start in there.  Like which championship to enter or something.  I completed one (fwd lancia), but when I go into that area it just drops me straight into the next one (or maybe the same one at the beginning).  Even with other cars in my garage I don't seem to see a list of options.  I quit the championship but I don't see a way to get a list of possible championships to do.  I picked up the Escort and I'd like to do one with that.

Joining a Championship is multiple events so jumping into one involves using the same care for basically a full season of rally.   I ran into the same thing and basically just quit the championship.  I found the Lancia a hoot to drive but I wanted into a RWD platform.   When you start another rally championship it will allow you to select a car from your garage.   You should be able to jump right in with the Escort you got.

In reply to Maniac0301 :

The "full season" is like 6 separate events, each composed of 4 stages, right?  Because that's what I completed.  I would think after that it would take me back to some selection screen where I could choose a different championship.

Completed this week's event, not my finest performance with a flat on ss1 and some time upside down on ss3- the low gearing on the Peugeot and high speeds made it really tempting to try and keep it on the limiter in 5th in places that probably deserved a little more caution...

I was going to put my runs in last night as well but Racenet seemed to be down towards the later night when I was trying.   I did drive both H2 FWD cars.  I think the Golf is the safer more stable pick while the Peugot is the more high strung hang it out pick.    I generally like the more twitchy cars but I think I'll run the Golf this week to get a comparo time to the Peugot.
