I have GTS and Asseto Corsa. I haven't turned either one of them on in a month. PC2 is the way to go. Not perfect, but pretty good and getting better with the updates.

Ok just got PC2. Its super fun! I love the helmet camera view!
I need to get used to this because I suck badly at this compared to GTS lol.
Take a look at the other PC2 thread also. There are a number of suggestions in there. On thing that is very different with PC is there are a LOT of settings that can be changed. E.g. the moving helmet cam (moves forward when you brake, looks into corners etc) is great but was really messing with me so I disabled it. I should probably try it again though since I think it's a great way to simulate some of the dynamics you can't feel.
Oh, and make sure to drop by on Wednesday. If you don't want to race, at least do the practice. Make sure you are on Brads friends list.

My fast lap was a 1:39, but with all the offs my average was probably in the low 1:40s. There's definitely time still out there, it'll just take more time on the track and setup.
I feel like you are sand bagging. My 6th lap after not driving for 2 weeks was a 39.1.

I wish I was. With some tuning I hit a 1:38.0 tonight and can probably get into the 1:37's with some more work, but I have a really hard time being consistent on this track. My average lap time is definitely above 1:40.
I ran a few more laps with Brad and Argo and got down to a 37.2 with a bit of a tow from an AI car. However, true to form in the 10 or so laps I did I also had 3 offs.
I really need to work on my tune, it's fast but only works at the limit. It plows off throttle and only rotates at full throttle with some slip angle. If I try to run it at 90% it doesn't turn at all. It's kinda like a high aero car where you have to drive faster to get it to work, but it's high risk.
I have a chassis setup that I am pretty happy with, however I still haven't got gearing sorted to my liking. And then there is the recuring cockpit software issue...
Grrr... Another race miss for me. I have to go out of town on Thursday and Friday BUT a snow storm will close the pass by Thursday morning so I have to leave Wednesday night.
That would be correct. In my case, I took the lazy route and swapped internet connections; from wireless AP / switch / SME firewall-server / cable modem string, to an Ethernet cable direct into the embedded router of a TV "whole home solution" set-top. There's something about the SME Server that annoys games, but why it let me run an entire race evening one week, then crash me out the next two attempts, has so far eluded me.
For Dean, the wireless headset I finally settled on is the Turtle Beach Stealth 600. Good battery life, excellent sound, fits over my glasses earpieces painlessly, and if there was any trouble getting them setup with the PS4 Pro, I've forgotten it.
Well, my performance was about as expected, run some quick laps and balance it out with a few offs. Fortunately for me no one else had a particularly clean race either, but it was a very uneven race from lap to lap.
I was really struggling the second half of the race. For one I started getting tired and losing concentration, and in these cars that's a recipe for disaster. That was compounded by my tune which was fast, but relied heavily on the front tires. I hadn't done a full length run and didn't realize the fronts would wear out so much. The car was understeering badly pretty much everywhere, but especially in the lower speed corners. I got through it, but barely.
Then there was the finish. I knew that the longer I ran the higher my chances of getting it wrong were and Air had been closing the gap over the previous few laps. Coming onto the front straight I had just enough gap to Air that I could slow down before the finish and end the race. The problem was that I didn't know which white line going across the front straight was the finish line and picked the wrong one. I crossed the line as the clock hit zero but not zero enough and had to do one more lap. It ended up not being an issue, but it was stupid.
My race was as expected but not as hoped. I thought I would be closer to air on pace, and I was for a lap or 2.
Everyone behaved through T1, including the orange torpedo. Following air and sauce for 3/4s of the lap, we felt pretty even. Then Sauce looped it. I stayed close-ish to air and the he ran wide (same place Sauce did?) and I got a run into the lead. Air wasn’t slowed long and resumed the race right on my tail. Going down the long straight he was well in my draft. I kept watching to see where and which direction he would make his move... and then I realized I missed my turn in for the corner. That caused extra steering input, which caused extra slip angle, which caused a wider line, which caused a tire to go off, which caused me to spin into the wall. I got righted and watched Sauce go by and set off after him again. That didn’t work. I was hoping that air and Sauce would tangle and let me catch up, but that didn’t happen either. So then I tried to find the missing time to close the gap and ended up going too wide through the last corner and had another off. Now I was in no mans land and just running laps.
That was fine until my TV turned itself off. I had a mild panic frantically searching for the remote and trying to turn the TV back on. I finally got it back on an oriented myself with the 4th place bot bearing down on me. I got back on it and started trying to rebuild my gap on them. This was fine until the last lap... which ended up not being the last lap. Sauces timing caught me out too, I only lost a couple seconds not realizing the race wasn’t over yet and then ran one more lap.
My race worked out OK. That little display the Dean and I put on crashing into each other and such (getting Dean banned from the race so he had to leave and come back!) and running the AI cars off the track worked out well. Apparently my tendency to run into things with abandon was a cause for a bit of concern for both Sauce and Brad. Driving closely behind both of them in a somewhat erratic manner cause both to take to the grass! The first couple of laps were certainly exciting and somewhat reminiscent of a typical GT6 race.
After disposing of Sauce in the weeds I ran up on some AI cars who seemed to not want me to pass them at the end of the big straight. That resulted in them meeting Mr Wall. Apparently that caused a bit of a disruption with the other AI cars who also thought off road was the way to go. Sauce did eventually catch me and drove off into the distance (not nearly as quickly as the last race though). I did see Brad following me, but not really catching. Sauce also seemed to get a lot closer near the end, and was actually in sight after his brain fart at the finish line.
All in all, I have gotten a pretty good handle on these cars. I have not done extensive tuning on them, but I at the point where spinning is very unlikely. The update might have helped, but it seems to mostly be just patients an not over reacting. I could be faster with some tuning, but I like the car how it is now, and Sauce is out of sight by now anyway.
Points updated, replay posted.
I haven't decided how many penalty points I'm going to have to apply to aircooled... but it is under consideration.
That might make me angry. You don't want me to drive angry, do you?....
Besides, Dean is the one that got kicked out.
I had fun!!! I had a minor issue with a bot in turn four on the first lap but forchinitly only one bot got by and the rest stacked up behind me. Then it was just a matter of turning laps while keeping the bots behind me. By the mid point of the race I had built up a gap to the bots behind me but I was not gaining on you all. As the laps went by my car actually got better and I think I ran my fastest lap towards the end of the race. Nothing really exciting but for my first race I am pleased that I finished where I did.
Ran some practice laps today. Am consistently in the mid to low 1:04s. 3s, maybe 2s are available with a well timed draft. Lap time is all about managing slip. Too much and you lose speed, slow down too much you don’t carry enough speed. It’s a tricky balance.
The track is huge for these cars, I don’t want to hear complaints about racing room.
I got new headphones yesterday and ran some test laps last night on GP/d in the escort. It is interesting in the differences between the pc2 model of the track and GT6. The track feels much smaller in pc2. Especially the run off areas. I was surprised by this. Many of the straits feel shorter as well.
I hope to do more testing tonight for Wednesday’s race.
@ Brad. It is the small one yes?
Sauce hosted a room tonight and I think I ran somewhere around 60 laps. I have managed to get into the upper 1:04s. I am still off sauce’s times a bit but I am hoping I can put a bit of hurt on the bots on Wednesday.
A big thanks to sauce for giving me the tour of the various tuning settings. It really helped me dial in my car to the point that it is not trying to kill me all the time.
Yes, National.
I think the best I managed with out a draft was a 4.3. You’re flat out for most of the lap, there’s very little opportunity to gain time. This race is all about not losing time. Well timed passes and using the draft are going to be key.
