I am going to make an attempt not to pick the slowest car in the class this time. For the GT3 series I am going to run the #53 BMW Z4 GT3. A car I don't like on the road should make a great race car, right?

Schedule has been updated. Since the VRR guys decided to go a different direction with their series, we've decided to shorten this series up some.

Self quote....

BradLTL wrote: I've goofed off this morning a bit and ran a few laps at Watkins in each of the GT3 cars. I used Time Trial because it let me swap cars the fastest; also every car was run in the default setup. These cars are so much easier to drive than the Group A cars; they are stable and almost feel slower. It's a weird transition. Here's my thoughts: - Audi: It feels light and nimble. Could be quick. My driving style will struggle with the lift-throttle oversteer tendency of the car. - BMW Z4: This car I was immediately fast and comfortable driving. From a race standpoint this might be a good choice, but I suspect (once tuned) it will lack overall pace. - Bentley: AHHHH GAWD THE STEERING WHEEL IS ON THE WRONG SIDE. Yea, I can't drive this car. I miss marks my miles and it messes with my brain. - Caddy: It feels stiff and prone to understeer. Default gearing is very long and so the pace on my test laps was a bit slower than I think it could be when setup properly. I didn't really like the way it felt driving. - Corvette: This was probably my second preference from a driving comfort. It feels good, it sounds good, it goes good. It acts like the Corvette you watch on the TV at all the races. It doesn't do anything wrong. Pace was good. - Ginetta: This car is surprising. Don't sleep on it. It's fast. It has by FAR (like a long way) the best braking performance compared to the other cars. Default gears are short and the nose really likes to turn into corners. This could be the sleeper of the series. That said, it is a bit twitchy and is easy to make a mistake. - McLaren: I don't really like this car IRL, but it drove pretty good. Felt balanced, good in corners and braking. Engine note is quiet and I kept hitting the rev limiter. - MB AMG & SLS: Both the Mercs feel a bit slow (they're not, but they feel slow). The SLS feels completely flat at all times, stable, easy to turn where you want, full of low end grunt. The AMG feels similar, but less planted and more eager to turn. - Ruf: I set one of my better times in the Ruf. I suspect it will have a lot of pace. With all the weight in the rear, you have to approach corners a bit different. This car's turn in response it the best of the group and with the right driver will be a tough fight for any of the other cars. Braking performance is probably second to only the Ginetta So thinking about what car I'll test next week, this is my current thinking: 1. Z4 - the smart/easy choice 2. Corvette - common? Good potential 3. McLaren - with a good setup (it bottoms out like crazy at WG) it could be really fast 4. Ginetta - could I keep it under control in traffic for a whole race?

I did some similar testing but at Spa. I found the standard setup to vary widely, gears, fuel, and tire temps to vary widely. With some basic equalizing, I got different results. I also think that some may be twitchy fast qualifiers but not race well. Tire wear varied widely as well. Based on my testing, I may make a surprise change of car. Have to test at another circuit to validate first.

I really want to run the C7.R. It sounds amazing on my home theater system. I ran 2 sessions, tuned it, dropped 3 seconds of lap time.

Then I ran 2 laps in the McLaren and was 3 seconds faster. So, I'm going to run the #12 McLaren.

I've had very little test time since we are packing to move. Let's hope internet moves from one place to the next without a big delay. Right now I am leaning toward the Aston Martin.

I think I just do better in a mid-engine car. I really wonder if it has to do with the lack of force feedback in my wheel. I slide around in the vette, feels like a more powerful Mercedes from the first series.

Looks like we have 6 registered for the series so far, I'm counting those who ran the previous series.

I managed a actual practice session tonight. Zolder is a fun track. I like all but the first 2 turns. They are too wide and flat, it's very hard to find and hit the racing line. That said, I'm just under a second off the pole time from the bots. The pole time in my practice session was a 1:34.5. I only ran a few laps of the actual race, but was able to make a couple passes and hang with the leaders.

The tricky bit will be pit strategy. I timed the pit lane delta at 1:07. So, pitting will cost you almost an entire lap. Guessing at a 28-29 lap race, that means if you can run heavy and keep moderate pace (<= 2 seconds race pace) then you'll be better off to not pit.

Wednesday should be fun.

So I will be running the Aston number 101. Yellow, of course. The car is easy to drive hard with no bad habits. I was a bit quicker in the Ginetta during testing but I doubt that I would finish a race without crashing (more). Need to learn the track. Not consistent at all yet.

You guys have fun. I will be looking at the results and running my Ruf GT3 offline to see how I would have done.

I'm counting you as a participant. When you have internet again you won't have an excuse not to race.

Plus we have some non-GRM racers, that means we'll add the website championship to this series.

I think that I've tuned myself out into left field and not sure that I know the path back Lap times seemed to be about the same anyway. Haven't really figured out 1 and 2. Right now my best is mid to upper 33's. Tire wear is an issue for softs. Should be an interesting race.

I was reasonably pleased with my pace last night. Decent pace in practice and qualifed outside front row. Nowhere near the speed of te9500 but faster than the bots. If it was a 15 minute race I would have finished 2nd, but it wasn't. Got caught by surprise as my rear tires went off suddenly. A couple of offs and some bot contact didn't result in a good finish but the season looks good.

My race was similar except replace contact with bots to mental errors brought on by fatigue and distractions.

I was really caught off guard by my rear tires getting so slippery. I don't really know the cause of it, but there was a point about 75% through the race where the grip level changed significantly. I managed several long slides and a couple spins before I got back on top of it. Ultimately I think it cost me about 3 positions and about 45 seconds of track position.

te9500rpm is legit fast and will prove a helluva rabbit to chase this series. He was over 1.6 seconds clear of our best times and I got the feeling he wasn't trying all that hard.

I was disappointed by the no-shows from another site. I plan to call them out for it. Hopefully we can keep growing the series. I think it's going to be a good one.
