Car Catcher: This 1959 MGA Has MGB Power

This 1959 MG MGA comes with an uprated 1.8-liter engine out of an MGB. Not only did they swap the five-main bearing engine over, but also the four-speed overdrive transmission and later MGB disc brakes. With a healthy horsepower bump, this MGA seems like it could be a candidate for classic car rallies. Find it on offer without reserve at Mecum's Chicago sale October 24-26.

Decent car except for that horrid downdraft Weber, inferior to the original sidedraft SUs.

Wonder why the owner went with it, then.

Because the name 'Weber' carries a certain panache and race heritage even though that particular one is a poor substitute for the SUs.  Ignorance drives  poor buying sense when the time comes to rebuild the SUs.  He probably just didn't know any better.
