Although the original plan for the 190E was to take it rallying, the introduction of the all-wheel-drive Audi Quattro around the same time pushed Mercedes-Benz to change the direction of the project from rally to road racing. Mercedes-Benz settled on DTM, but that meant that in order to race in the series a number of homologation models would have to be built.
This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth is an earlier example that is said to be in “original condition” both inside and out, save for a “more modern head unit” for the radio.
Powered by a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine good for around 185 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque and backed by a five-speed manual transmission, this Mercedes-Benz is said to have been “meticulously maintained since it was imported into the U.S.”
Reported to currently have 117,643 miles on the clock, this 190E is finished in Smoke Silver over a black leather interior. Also included in the sale is the original owner’s manual, a clean title and a “comprehensive” collection of service records.
