Winning a prestigious concourssuch as Pebble Beach, The Amelia, Cavallino, among otherscertainly is huge. But who’s the best of the best? That’s just what The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award sought to determine. With an incredible group of judges assembled, they selected this 1964 Ferrari 250 LM from nine finalists. Here’s why.

[The wild stories behind the 9 finalists for the Best of the Best]

The winning 1964 Ferrari 250 LM is much more than just a stunning vehicle,” said Christian Philippsen, co-founder of The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award, in a press release. “This is one of Ferrari’s most revolutionary models, with a rich competitive history and incredible provenance. We are thrilled to honour a motorsport legend of this calibre as this year’s Best of the Best.”

What’s some of that racing history? While campaigned as a privateer entry, it earned wins at Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Silverstone.

It raced Daytona in 1966. It raced Le Mans in 1968. It raced even in Africa in 1967.

Legendary drivers sat behind its wheel, too.

Nine-time grand prix motorcycle champion Mike Hailwood. F1 race winner and noted journalist Innes Ireland. Sebring winner Mike Parkes.

Remarkably, it “never suffered a significant crash,” per its auction listing on RM Sotheby’s in 2023. The Ferrari retains the original engine and transaxle used at Le Mans, as well as the original bodywork.

The owner had the Ferrari restored after covid hit. The quality of that restoration and its history paved the way for it being displayed at the Enzo Ferrari Museum in 2022. The Ferrari was then presented at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2022 and 2024.

However, what punched its ticket for consideration for The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award was its best in show at the Cavallino Classic in 2024. All the aforementioned, though, secured The Best of the Best win.

I am truly humbled to receive this distinguished award,” said Chris Cox, owner of the 1964 Ferrari 250 LM, in a press release. “It brings me tremendous joy to show a vehicle with such a rich history at the world’s biggest concours, and being selected for The Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award is the highest honour a car collector can achieve.”
