At some point, someone had jacked up our Ferrari using the rocker panels and not the frame–a common occurrence among classic cars, right?
As expected, the 308 GT4’s rocker panels were crushed and caved in a bit. Fortunately, though, the damage was barely visible unless the car was up on a lift.
Still, we wanted to fix this. It was only right.
While one of the dents will take a bit more time plus some special tools, we were able to quickly repair the rest of the damage. How? By carefully tapping, bending and pulling out the damage.
This work is done with a body hammer plus locking pliers hooked to the pinch weld at the bottom of the rocker. To keep from making the damage worse, you will need to go easy. Also, cover the hammer’s head with a soft towel to prevent any gouges to the paint.
Once we finished bending the sheet metal back into position, we refinished with satin black paint. If our car wore a solid color instead of our two-tone Boxer paint, this step would have been much more involved.
We will come back in for a deeper dive when we deal with other body work a bit further down the road to recovery on this car.
