Sometimes, family heirlooms like a snow globe collection or a taxidermy deer’s head can feel like a burden–but what if, instead, that heirloom was a classic Mercedes-Benz?

This 280S from 1971 is reported to have been owned by the same family since new and is offered as an all-original survivor.

The car currently shows 56,623, though the seller is unsure if that’s miles or kilometers. (The Mercedes-Benz was bought new in Germany and then imported in the United States.)

My father had a 1970 280s like this one but in dark green with a tan interior.  He ordered it for delivery in Germany and then he and my mother toured Europe for a few weeks and then returned to Germany for the car to shipped to the States.

Unfortunately, there was a dock strike in New York City so the car was eventually shipped to New Orleans. That delayed getting the car back for several months.

After many years, the car succumbed to the ravages of time and salted winter roads of northwest Indiana.
