This is just one of seven works examples of the Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC Rallyewagen. It was rallied in period by WRC champion Hannu Mikkola.
This Rallyewagen campaigned primarily as a practice car. It competed just once, with Mikkola behind the wheel of it during the 1980 Rally Codasur in Argentina. The Mercedes-Benz finished second, helping Mikkola secure a runner-up position to the 1980 championship.
In 1981, the car was believed to be dismantled. After the end of the rally program, they sold all the cars (six SLCs, including this one) and assorted equipment (like 600 tires). In 2007, Slovakian company SLCRacing purchased the complete inventory and completely restored this example.
