Porsche built 200 examples of the 911 Carrera 2.7 RS Lightweight. How many of them, though, used the full extent of those performance features? This one did, with plenty of in-period hillclimb and rally competition.

This 911 didn’t sit idle in someone’s collection after it was bought. When Vittorio Benvenuti took delivery of the new car, he brought it to its first hillclimb in 1973. It won its group. Today it’s presented in those same colors Benvenuti used for the car’s first victory.

Federico Cane later used the 911 to win the Italian National Rally Championship in 1979 and competed in the famed Targa Florio that same year. The car's racing history and condition make it “an ideal entrant for many historic events including the Tour Auto and Modena Cento Ore,” according to the seller.

Find this 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight for auction at RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated value of $950,000-$1,250,000.
