Imagine buying a monogrammed vintage suit from a thrift store. Sure, it wasn’t made for you, but still pretty cool, right?

Well, this Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG is a lot like that, but if the vintage suit was from Hugo Boss and the monogram covered the entire front of the suit jacket.

The “Marakaito Missile,” as it’s also known, is billed as one of AMG’s “most highly personalized creations ever,” and for good reason.

The car features numerous one-of-a-kind touches including Malachite Green Metallic exterior paint, extended buffalo leather interior, Nakamichi sound system, M117/9 V8 engine and–get this–hand-painted leather gauge faces.

In late 2024, a marque specialist spent nearly $20,000 to have the 560 SEC mechanically refurbished. The work included fitting several NLA parts like a factory-correct torque converter, custom engine mounts, gaskets and filters.

Today, the car shows fewer than 74,000 kilometers (about 46,000 miles).

Find this 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC 6.0 AMG 'Wide-Body' for auction from RM Sotheby’s, with an estimated value of $650,000-$850,000.

I'm putting "hand-painted leather gauge faces" on my list of "car options I never realized I needed." What a flex.

What part, exactly, is "hand painted". The background ?  The needles ?  It sure as hell isn't the alpha-numerics......unless hand painted by a robot.

It's a good question. To quote the seller, "The lower dashboard is done in black buffalo leather, while the upper dashboard wears dark green buffalo leather which also finds its way to the matching set of grain-matched, leather-faced gauges with hand-painted indications."

Perhaps a stencil was used? Or is it out of the question that they could have genuinely been hand-painted with as much money as someone dumped into having this car built?

I'm not certain myself. I do, however, love the leather gauge faces. smiley
