Behind the Iron Curtain, racer Heinz Melkus built his namesake Melkus RS 1000 in what was then East Germany. The RS 1000 is considered his company’s most successful creation, although only 101 were built.
The mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports car uses a 1119cc three-cylinder power plant, with three carburetors. It is rated for 70 horsepower, but the car weighs only 1874 pounds.
This example was restored by the Melkus company. The seller says it has only been driven a little more than 100 miles since the restoration.
Find this 1980 Melkus RS 1000 up for auction at MyCarmunity, with an estimated value of €79,500 (about $83,840 USD).
