While this particular D-type didn't win LeMans, D-type Jaguars did win LeMans in 1955, '56 and '57.

After winning Le Mans in 1953, what did Jaguar send to Circuit de la Sarthe the next year as its lead car? This Jaguar D-type, OKV 2, steered by Sir Stirling Moss and Peter Walker.
The duo set the fastest time in practice, with a top speed of 172.97 mph. While it led the race early, it retired with brake issues by midnight. It then went on to compete in numerous races until 1958, making it quite possibly the most-raced Works D-Type. The roster of drivers that sat behind its wheel include Formula 1 race winners, Le Mans winners, Jaguar employees and Olympic medalists.
While it didn’t win at Le Mans, the Jaguar D-type certainly made an impact on sports car racing with its innovative aerodynamic design. OKV 2 comes with extensive documentation and is eligible for many great historic events, such as Goodwood Revival, Classic Le Mans and Monterey Historics.
Find this 1954 Jaguar D-Type “OKV 2” Works Competition for auction at Broad Arrow Auctions, with an estimated value of $6,500,000-$8,500,000.
