What makes a car extra special? Rarity. Notable owners. Big race victories. Prestigious concours wins. Well, this Porsche 356A has all that.
In 1957, Porsche built just 26 examples of its Carrera GT/GT Lightweight Coupe for racing purposes. This is one of them. Its first driver? “The Flying Dentist” Dick Thompson, who campaigned it in several SCCA events, among others. In 1958, the Porsche competed in the 12 Hours of Sebring with drivers Huschke von Hanstein and Herbert Linge, who drove it to a class win and a 10th overall finish.
After being restored from 2018 to 2021, the 356A went to The Amelia, where it won its class. It then proceeded to take class victories at the Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance, Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance, Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, and, most recently, ModaMiami this year.
