The challenge this year is a long shot for me due to a new family member arriving in November.  I picked something up this weekend that has me thinking about making an attempt.

If you look at the msrp for 13x10 real racing wheels and Hoosier R25As, subtract them from the cost of the car, and squint a little bit, this might make it under the challenge budget.  I could even get a double bill of sale from the previous owner.  He would enjoy the creative rule interpretation.  Thoughts?

No berkeleying way.  There is creative rules interpretation then there is a steaming pile of bullE36 M3, and if you try to challenge budget that it's the latter

Replacement cost for the wheels and tires is around $3K.  Any idea on a fair market value?  23x10 Hoosier R25As and Real racing 13x10 wheels.

But in this case, you actually paid $4200 for the car as it sits, which would mean you can recoup up to $1000..

There's some option for an Exhibition entry at the challenge, right?

Couldn't find any examples on eBay but say you go with a standard %50 cut for used that gets $4200 - $1500 = $2700 that you paid for the car.  You can't spend more than $2000 on the car.  If serious then ask for a FMV on them but I would be one to protest at the Challenge.

I mean, we know what the ad says but we don't know what all was included but not needed for the challenge (extra parts, etc) nor do we know the actual price paid. This car was listed at $4200 for over a year...

I don't want to jump to conclusions about the actual deal made.

No need to jump to conclusions, OP laid it out in his first post:

The deal was made with one purchase, and he would hafta go back for a split receipt to make it Challenge legal. No assumptions, as that is what he wrote.
Anyone of us can look up the MSRP of the wheels and tires, add that to the $2000 maximum Challenge legal starting point, and come up with a number based on ojannen's own accounting.

FMV doesn't even matter if you work the split receipt correctly, but it all smacks of violating the DBAD spirit and is being done now as an afterthought. This isn't creative, it is a tortured interpretation.

I hope you can find enough room in the budget to make the car NHRA legal as I cannot imagine that a National level Solo car was built with NHRA rules in mind. 210HP at Dmod minimum weight means safety prep is likely to be in play. Great troll post, though!

Out of curiosity, where does 200hp and 1300lbs put you in the 1/4 mile?  I have been down a drag strip exactly twice.

Search Wallace drag racing calculators. There are many versions of the same thing that will give you "ideal" times. Getting within a second of the prediction is a pretty good job.

If you sell it to me for $1950 I'll bring my own wheels. Then I'll run it at the challenge.

That would make it a challenge car.
