Wasnt too many years ago I still took ac off, to save on maint. and weight... You couldnt pay me to drive as far as town without it now. I sure did get old.

I still have a box with a couple of the old add on cruise units from late 70s / early 80s, if something like it is no longer available. might be able to cobb on out of it. I got hooked on CC a really long time ago.

The van is a factory non-ac small heater core vehicle and it was horrible on the first rally we did when the polar vortex was going through.  When we took it to the Texas Rally the 4 days drive to Houston and back where where cruise would have been welcome!

Note the pitting on the lower picture. That's the worst one, but all four wheels have some level of it, mostly on the back side. They're "ten-footers" as they are and I don't really know what you could do to reduce the pitting. I saw something a few days ago that suggested pitting could be helped by using one of those rust eliminating solutions, but I haven't tried anything. I have no idea if the stuff will even work on aluminum or chrome.

The paint on the car is original, but also a "ten footer"! 15s would definitely open up more tire choices

In anticipation of the rally it's getting new front brakes.  I went with the drilled and slotted discs for maximum stopping power!

The old brake master was starting to go bad so it got a new one today.  The best part of manual brakes is I don't need to worry about having enough vacuum at idle with a 13/16ths race cam.

In addition to the brake work it got 4 shocks.  The ones that were in it were so blown out the pistons collapsed with just gravity.  What oil that was left was coming out the top.

For replacements it got some basic KYBs.

To test out the new brakes and shocks, we did about 130 miles last night down to Wilkes-Barre and around.  While we were eating I saw 3 people taking pictures of it.

We even got a show when a fight broke out while we were eating ice cream at a gas station.

Doing a little fine tuning to the idle mixture and timing today.  Must be doings something right, no check engine light or pending DTCs set.

We have had stickers made up to hand out at the last 2 rallies.  These are the ones we did for the Rust Belt Ramble.  If any GRMers are coming to the Concours on Saturday make sure to find me.
