Go and Stop, Gas and Brake. We are simple guys, reducing confusion is critical. Also, we are easily entertained...

That last pic is me staring down my own "I don't wanna" attitude.

We aren't gonna make it if I don't kick this funk, like right now. These panels aren't building themselves and staring at E36 M3 I don't want to do isn't progress.

Trans blanket got installed Saturday night.
I am super glad Bob was there yesterday to get actual things done while I argued with cardboard. Besides painting the pedals and battery hold down, he also drilled a bunch(like really a lot!) of holes to mount the floor and did some more notching on the body.

I know the feeling. For me, the best antidote is to start on something else (if you can).

Sorta like cleaning the house, it's easy to keep going once you start. So start with something easy.

I appreciate the encouragement. Like making my kids clean the house, I really wanted to push this task off on CB. But, he willingly fell on the wiring sword and I'm not taking that away from him!

I need the foot box complete to move forward with mounting the pedals and getting them hooked up, which is why I started where I did. However, I want fresh eyes on the situation too, so I may let it stew and spend any available time this week on simpler panels

Port and Starboard components?

(not really, good documentation like that will reduce confusion)

Green means go. Red means stop. Remember, our drivers aren' the brighest bulbs in the pack

I was gonna defend you from yourself but I've been using the grill you assembled for 2 years and every time i move it and it wobbles i curse you and your "extra parts"

Yep, this was even more stupid than I thought it might be

I made CB build that thing, and finish up the foot box, while I worked on some other close-out panels.

Foot box is riveted to the chassis. Trans tunnel side cover will be riveted as well. Top covers are Dzus'd on for access.

Another round of body notching and fitment in the books

Exhaust clearance is choice! *chef's kiss*

Little drag setup teaser. This is one area where we are throwing money, in lieu of time. I have a cheaper pair of wheels we planned to use, but turns out they have too much offset. This pair is not cheap, but they will do for now

Then, back inside before the rains came. CB started on our rear bulkhead

Meanwhile, Bob and I began filling fluids and generally making a mess of things. Two steps forward for brake bleeding, one step back for a leaky intake.

I pointed out the coolant tracers on the front of the engine to the seller when I bought the MGM, and was told the intake and gaskets had been replaced recently....He lied.

On the bright side, it only took one kick in the balls, 14 additional bolts, and an extra hose clamp to get the intake off vs. just changing the plugs which needed done anyhow.

Recycled parts!

-A scrap from the chassis building phase,
-A wasted corner from cutting out a panel,
-And a switch from the shifter because we don't need no stinking reverse lights

Imagine how good that gas will feel when you've got an extra atmosphere or three being crammed in that intake.

Belated Friday Update: I'd Hit That(Punch List)

List posted Thursday night. We crossed off more points than we added yesterday, so that's a thing. I also redacted some secret squirrel items for this pic.

CB finished the rear bulkhead, then I did the top cover and dash.

Plus a handful of smaller list hits. Gonna put the intake on tonight and see if I can knock out anything else before my Kid Taxi shift starts.

Wall of text update. Obviously the diffuser is on but, more difficult to see in that pic, the floor had to go on first. Getting the floor and skirts on finally brought the side of the car between the wheels visually closer to the image in my head. Also, so many rivets...

With kids on fall break I have temporarily reclaimed my weeknight evenings, just in time for the hell week thrash.

  • Main switch mounted and wired
  • Steering shaft boot installed
  • 12v systems pre-checked
  • n2o plumbed and solenoids tested
  • Water in engine(again)
  • Gear oil in diff
  • Driver's harness installed
  • Test fired the engine(again), no leaks at this time

Maybe Bob has a couple pics from last night. I don't.

Let me make a Friday morning update from last night. Things were done. Items crossed off list. Things added to list. Much joyousness.

Now let me polish off this pot of coffee, take some more aleve and get back to work.

Rinse and repeat today, now with 100% more ducting

Also, the diff works

We did discover a flaky brake master cylinder. Grabbing a replacement tomorrow.
