Well I found my issue causing it to smoke under boost... Lol
Thanks! It should hold anything I ever plan on dishing out in the future. A good tune on a MSPnP, Camshafts, and Turbo upgrade should really up the HP!
It runs! And quite smoothly I might add! One small issue came up 10 Miles in, the bypass hose o-ring began leaking. Go figure the one part I misplaced and installed a regular o-ring in its place lol. New part ordered and should be here today.
This is with an open Downpipe. I'll take video of her this evening or tomorrow.
It's been to long since I've updated this project. Life has gotten in the way, but this build is on part two. Last time I built a forged and balanced bottom end. I recently sold my white '89 Probe GT and using the cash to finance the 2nd part of the build. It is consisting of a GT3071R Turbo Kit, MSPnP2, 255 Walbro Fuel Pump, Top Feed Fuel Rail Conversion, Southbend Stage 3 Clutch, 1000cc Injectors, and some other goodies.
Pics to come, can't seem to get them to link.
Shes slowly coming together. Flywheel is being resurfaced, and the engine/transmission will be able to be reassembled. I found a small area of rust I'm about to repair, so once that's buttoned up, the engine can go back in the car. I also picked up a clear camcover to add a little asthetics. The cars rebuild consists of a stock block, Wiseco Forged 86.00mm Pistons, Eagle Rods, Balanced Crank, Lightweight Flywheel, Southbend Stage 3 Clutch, Cometic .056" MLS Headgasket, ARP Headstuds, MegaSquirt PnP2, Walbro 255 Fuel Pump, GSC S1 268 duration cams, GT3071R Turbo, 1000cc Fuel Injection Development Injectors, Racer X Top Feed Fuel Rail, 3" Stainless Exhaust, and a Tial EWG. Super excited to get to fire it up, but still have a away to go yet. On a positive note, I'm going to be a Dad!!!! We find out what it is on Nov 12th, what my little shop helper will be!
Looking good so far!
Gates Racing Timing Belt installed, as well as new timing components.
I'm so excited to announce my wife and I just found out the gender of our upcoming baby. IT'S A BOY!!! Coming April 2019!!! #FutureGRMSubscriber
Awesome! I was just reading the thread to refresh on the car from the start and I was surprised by the baby news. Get ready to have garage time reduced and yet for some reason totally not regret it. I'm still able to get an hour or two in every couple days but the kiddos (2 now) are just so amazing and fun that while I miss the 8 hour epic wrenching sessions, what's replaced them for now is even better.
Cool car, and I've been enjoying the heck out of my 2001 MR2. It's been the perfect motorcycle replacement for a safety conscious dad.
Got the new Southbend clutch installed today. I agree, the reduced wrenchtime will be worth it! I couldn't be more stoked!
Here is the area I mention previously. I have a friend with a half cut, and he's going to cut out a section out of it and bring it to me. I figure I'd just l'd just go ahead and address it while the engine is out for easy access. I removed the driver side bracket to access it easier. After welding in the sectioned panel, I'll undercoat it to prevent it from happening again in the future.
Gorgeous car
welcome to dad club
we have 9 cars, from cheap to very expensive. When given a choice, my boys always first pic sw20 MR2 to take out. Can’t blame them, it’s the best mr2 made and looks the best. Only wish it had back seats. No I don’t want an ugly Evora
looking forward to more updates
While waiting for my section to repair the rusted area on my car, I wire wheeled the manifold and sprayed it with ceramic high heat paint.
I also began giving the engine bay a through cleaning. Years of gunk, now gone!
My stepdad who is 80 wanted to get in on the project too lol. He is a retired mechanic/fabricator/crane & machine operator. The subframe had an area rusted through on the side of the bolt hole. He welded it up for me while I was at work.
Well I've made some decent progress. The engine is sitting back in the car. Awaiting a few odds & ends, but its getting closer to being ready to fire up!
Got my MSPnP2 wired up and serial cable ran from the trunk to the passenger compartment.
It's connected!
Next up it to give it a good once over, wire in the GM IAT,reinstall the stainless brake lines, and brake cables. Hopefully hear it fire up soon.
Have you thought about an air to water intercooler setup? Frozen boost core on top, a little radiator out back...or up front...it's only hose, a bosch electric pump, a fill tank, bits and bobs. Suprisingly, not crazy money. Cheaper than detonation on those lovely Wisecos.
Not sure if you are, but If you plan on running E85, please go through the fuel system entirely, including the pump and lines inside the tank to the rail, as E85 will swell and rot lines not intended for ethanol. Also, ethanol leaks where gasoline doesn't. NO worm drive hose clamps, only fuel injection specific clamps, connections and ethanol rated hoses. Up your fuel delivery hardware game or risk a carbecue.
Beautiful build btw. Might have to be my next project. Thanks for that.

I plan on just running 93 pump for the time being, as I simply dont have access to it locally at the moment. I've considered a Water to Air intercooler, but I'll probably just stick with what I have for the moment until I have access to E85 in my local area. The car is built with considerable room to grow. It should make around 350whp the way it is with a good tune. I'm looking to have Peter Florence of PF Tuning in Va. Beach tune the car. The plan is to get it running and driveable, get it broke in and repair any small issues that may arise. Then let him work his magic.
