Yes. It also reduces the amount of high current cable running through the car. Which, for me, is huge.

Or are you saying you dont like that much juice looking for a way out?

Hadnt considered that, Win, Win, Win

Exactly. The more high current wire, the more possibility of shorts and subnuclear events. If i can have all the long runs only carry 3-5 amps, im a happy fat man.

At least this car doesnt have any rough edges of bare metal! Lol, sorry Barefoot, I had to

I'm not super worried about high current running all over the car. It's not like I have a trunk mounted battery or anything really  far from the switches. The battery lives just above the rh header, with the starter being right below and the alternator on the front of that same head. Then I have either an ignition switch or big relay to distribute power to everything. I got a 6-spot fuse block with a handy ground bus, and I robbed all the wiring from the donor van and there's a big bunch of 10 and 12ga wire I'll be reusing.

So I can either power the distribution block directly from the battery (which means all the big wires coming in as far as the block) or I can have a switch/main relay between the battery and block, which doesn't save any wiring or current running through the cabin anyway.
the biggest current draw will be the cooling fan, then the lights, then the fuel pump. The pump is a low pressure deal that'll be mounted out back by the tank and the wiring will most likely be inside the car and in loom.

I don't think it'll be an issue either way, is the short version. The local jy wants $3 for questionable used relays, and the parts house wants $8 for new ones with warranty. I don't think I'll need more than 4.

In other news, I bought fuel line! And a start switch! I shouldn't rush but I REALLY want to hear this thing run Saturday.

For a young guy, I don't make very good use of the internet. And as a general rule I dont buy much from mr. bezos, but that deal is sweet. Might as well do things properly if it's gonna be that cheap.

Probably no chance of arriving before the weekend, but I ordered these:

I figure I can still fire the engine, only needing 12v to the dizzy and a start button.

Battery tie down almost finalized, radiator hoses ready for clamps, final oil pan bolt tightened, start switch wired.

Any reason I can't or shouldn't run 5/16 rubber fuel line all the way from the tank to the carb? Does the line need to me metal? Sleeved? Pretty much the only reason I can't try to start it right now is fuel. I could rig a jerry can, but I'd rather not go through the hassle and possible mess.

Q NHRA rules say no more than 12 in of rubber fuel line in the entire vehicle. In addition I have found that modern fuel lines sucks donkey balls and we'll go bad at an alarmingly quick raped

Your talk to text is horrible

this is the rule, minus rape and donkey balls.  Michael must be hanging out in tijuana.  In addition, if the fuel line is inside the frame rails at the bellhousing area it must be run through an 1/8" thick 18" long tube to protect it unless it is braided stainless line.

Wow. It's worse than normal tonight. Thanks for clarifying all that Patrick. And now I'm debating whether or not I should go back and edit the original to be what I wanted it to be not what it said.

Well shoot. Glad I grabbed the whole roll of 5/16 because I can return it if still uncut. Braided line or something. Not sure I'll find that in this town tomorrow. May have to rig something temporary for the planned first engine start.

I like steel line. Usually advance has it by the roll in most sizes. Put a flare on each end of the steel for rubber hose retention.

We don't have an Advanced here. But Auto value, auto zone, car quest, oreilley, Napa, and a specialist hose place. Someone should have something.

NAPA for sure has bare steel, epoxy coated and copper nickel line in rolls.

Napa said they could have a 25' roll for me this afternoon. $44.
Mr. Bezos has the same roll for $24. I can wait a few days. All the other parts stores either said "We haven't sold any of that in years," or "what make/model/year of car are you working on?"

Yeah we don't carry anything larger then 1/4 inch in the rolls. Most of the fuel line stuff we sell is repair kits or short sections and compression fittings lol

I started at a parts store in '08 and never saw any or had anyone ask for it. Doesn't surprise me that it's not on the shelves in this small town. Kudos to the dude at Napa who was willing to hunt it down and pull strings but I'm building a challenge car. $20 is $20.

The oil isn't falling out.
coolant hoses finished.
vacuum lines finished.
fuel pump confirmed functional.
5 gallons of the cheapest ethanol free fuel.

All that's left is hose clamps, and 3 wires. Gonna go jam a ham sandy and play with the kids a bit. And boss wants me to go earn some money with a shovel for a couple hours. This evening will be fire and glory. Hopefully the fire stays in the combustion chambers.
