The Ford Racing Z363 engine has taller heads and larger exhaust ports that require custom-made exhaust headers. Fortunately, we found a company, Ford Powertrain Applications, that had done this conversion in an early Mustang. For about $700, we got a beautiful pair of headers finished in a high-temp coating that were perfectly suited to our needs.

For the rest of the exhaust, we used Magnaflow’s 2.5-inch stainless steel Mustang system. We thought the power increase of our 500 horsepower engine deserved an upgrade from the stock 2.25-inch exhaust system. This computer-designed kit is mandrel-bent and fits right. Total cost for this setup is less than $600 from National Parts Depot. We capped off the system with reproduction 1967 Shelby GT 350 exhaust tips that have been modified to fit the larger tubing.
