My Land Cruiser has an aftermarket bumper that was on it when I bought it.

The bumper has a swing-away for holding a tall spare tire, and also has integrated lights that double the stock rear lights that can be obscured by the spare.

One of the lights (amber) is no longer water tight and has moisture inside. It cannot be serviced as far as I can tell, and my efforts to pry it apart have been for naught so far.

I contacted the bumper manufacturer, and they responded to let me know that they sell complete lighting kits, within replacements for all the lights as a package. No singles. On top of this, my setup with distinct red, amber, and clear lights has been replaced with a red light for brakes, and a clear light that switches between clear LEDs for backup and amber LEDs for turn signal. They said they might have some old complete kits with distinct amber and clear for $120 plus shipping.

I don't want to replace all the lights if I don't have to. I don't want to rewire if I can help it. I just want to buy one new amber light and plug it in and bolt it on. I'm not opposed to replacing a connector if needed.

I can't imagine that these are proprietary, but my Google-fu has failed to locate a replacement source. They are probably metric as the bumper company is Aussie.

The light is roughly 2-3/8" or 60mm in diameter. It has two longish M6 mounting studs on the back spaced about 1-1/16" or 27mm apart. It has a two-wire connector and works with either 24V or 12V (important for my 24V truck.) Any help appreciated....aaaand go!

Any numbers on the back?

Interesting challenge.

I used to work for a heavy duty truck parts supplier and recall seeing 2" clearance lights but I don't have the info on-hand. I might do some digging. Most of those are likely 12v though and won't have the studs.

Best I could do with limited time.

If you could make out what the lettering is inside of the trapezoid on the opposite of the LED "E4" at the bottom of the lamp, it might help, but it appears to be an older lamp produced local to Oceania and likely not in production anymore.  I personally would replace it and its partner with a pair of newer, sealed LEDs and not look back, so to speak.

I just went through this at work.  We were getting water intrusion into the lights, rate of maybe 4%, but when you send out 5 machines per week, each with 20 of the lights on them...

Anyways.

I wouldn't bother with trying to find the supplier.  Basically 95% of LED lights are made in China amongst god-knows how many factories, and none of em really communicate with you, even if (like at work) you want to pay them for a higher quality part.

We did come across one company that almost could help us, Buyers Products, they at least have quality control processes for their lights and such.  May have good results with them

Unfortunately you are likely going to have the quickest result getting all the dimensions and doing some selective buying and returning from Amazon.

It's getting water into it, but you didn't say if it's still working. Can you drill a couple small drain holes in the bottom and carry on?

In reply to SV reX :

Most LED lights, internally, have a decent amount of exposed circuitry. Might work, but I'd bet there's rust

What makes it so unique?  It looks like a 3" LED grommet light to me, but it's hard to tell.

No numbers on the back that I can see. I pried up the seal around the wires to see if that was an obvious spot for the water getting in.

It works at the moment, but I am worried about corrosion. I thought about trying to dry it out, and then sealing it up as best I can and running with it. I may still take this route until it stops working if I can't find another solution.

As for the markings on the lens, it seems to read "WGT" or maybe "WCT"

What makes it unique? The diameter plus voltage. Everything I've been finding is bigger (3", 5", 6" etc) and won't easily fit the hole in the bumper. superbrightleds.com has some promising-looking 2" and 2.5" lights that initially look like they might not be too hard to adapt, but none of them are 24V compatible. They have 24V offerings, but they are all much bigger and oval.

Is 2" close enough?  That would leave a gap of 3/16" around. Could you repurpose the old gasket or modify it in any way?

Tractor supply has these, and they are cheap:

I did a little digging through the Grote and Truck-Lite catalogs and may have found something...

Grote does make a 2.5" 24v LED. May have to clearance a little, figure out mounting, and make a pigtail for them but it's a possible cheaper route.

They are on the river site for about $17 each.

I would also check the specs of the lamps.  I've never seen a single-voltage LED.  They might say something like 12v, but that's nominal.  The actual operating range could be 8v-24v.

I know the LEDs I currently have in the interior of my van clearly say 12v, but they operate anywhere from 5v to 18v.

Thanks for all the input everyone! It looks like I will try ordering some 2" or 2.5" units and see if I can adapt them to fit. I'll let you know how it goes.

You'll need to log in to post.
