It was the 600 mile service on my new bike. They check a couple things but it amounts to an oil change and clearing the fault code in the ECU. Nothing more than a shop would do when they change your oil and rotate tires on a car.
I stock up on filters from rockauto and have my wife pick up the oil on her walmart trips. I use pennzoil synthetic just because.
I know it's not that much cheaper, but I spent enough years in the business to know how much damage "lube techs" are capable of. Plus when I do it myself I get to have quiet time and drink beer in the garage. Plus working on my own stuff makes it easier to justify spending money on tools.
