The Kia K5 has been popping up on my radar more and more lately, but I don't really recall seeing anything anywhere about it.
Talking to people, most don't seem to realize it exists, some think it's an evolution of the Stinger.
It hits a lot of boxes as a Civic replacement for the wife though. 300 turbo charged horsepower, available AWD, $30k sticker price, decent mpg ratings.
So are the parts made from unobtanium? Are people just sleeping on them?

I don't think you can have both 290hp & AWD...one or the other

Looks like they debuted in 2021 and have sold about 50k per year since.
During the same time frame, Chevy sold about 110k Malibus, Honda sold about 150k Accords, and Toyota sold about 300k Camrys per year.
Reviews make them seem like a decent car in the segment, so the lack of sales could be due to a lack of awareness or limited supply.

I could have swore it was an option in the configuration thing on the site. Going back on it, it is not.
Not that the wife needs 300hp anyway, she's already driving the 11 year old civic entirely too fast all the time as it is.
Does seem like a mistake on Kia part to not have that option, but it would also put it out of our price range.
Just coming here to note that it's mechanically similar (identical, really) to the Hyundai Sonata.
And yeah, it's a bummer that the most powerful version of the K5/Sonata can't be had with all-wheel-drive. It'd be a true weapon on the street.
See also: the Sonata N-Line lapped the FIRM faster than an early Boxster S, a 2020 Civic Si and a 2020 ND Miata.
K5 is the optima replacement. Optima/sonata are Camry/accord sized. Forte/elantra are civic sized but usually a little more interior space than their Japanese contemporaries. At least historically
The nameing of the different trims makes things confusing and hard to find what exactly what you are looking for.
K5 GT Fwd only 290 hp
K5 GT-line 180 hp can be fwd or awd..
Stupid because trying to sort out between the two similar names. I've been looking for a "GT" locally, but after a while get frustrated when all I find is "GT-line".
In the last go-around of restyles the new Sonata is still named the Sonata. The sort-of-twin, Optima became the K5.
Wiki
The K5 in this current design came out in 2019 so it is already a 5 year old design. I'd expect an update design soon.
Plus, K5 is also a Chevy Blazer.
