Looking for a non boring Automatic... Under 2000$

Looking for something automatic that won't put me to sleep when I drive it... Under 2000 smackers

A little reason why... I have a new car, our main car that's automatic but the second car needs to be as well as SWMBO doesn't drive a manual and we are going to swap cars once in awhile depending on who's getting the kids and who is going the farthest that day. I am looking for something to drive 5-10 kms a day tops!

Now I have had quite a few under 2000$ cars in my life but none of the auto tranny ones were any fun..READ slow! All Civics. From a 91 to a 2001. No acceleration at all.

I'm hesitant to buy a domestic automatic.. I heard bad things about overheating transmissions in almost all makes. Dodge, Chevrolet and Ford.

Any suggestions? Gas mileage isn't too important but better then an SUV would be good.

V6 Camry? Careful with the oiling though, ask GRM. Nissan Maxima? A non-domestic auto for under $2k that isn't slow is a tall order. If you can go domestic, then Buick Regal GS. With that little of a budget, you are going to have the look for the best of whatever you can find.

If so, the 2004-2006 Lancer Ralliarts sold fairly well up there. I've been driving my Ralliart wagon since 2010, and it's been a very reliable car.

The Ralliart has a larger, long stroke and over square (EDIT: under square, wrote that late last night) engine that makes a lot of torque in the mid range, and the gearing of the transmission really matches the power band. 

The springs, shocks, wheels, brakes, steering, and chassis bracing as well as the Recaro seats are unique to the Ralliart.

An automatic would be a lot less likely to have been abused, and it's a pretty robust transmission. 

I'm definitely not recommending the base lancer.

what about a classic beat up american car? v8's are fun, pretty no matter what youre in and ~5mi a day isnt gonna kill ya in gas

Buick would be nice, Either SC or non SC. Are the transmissions weak?

I'm taking the boring route and suggesting the best V8 Mustang or F-body you can find in your budget.

There is also the MN12 platform T-birds, Cougars, and Lincoln Mk 8s.

Then there are the Panther cars, which if you like those, consider the GM B and D bodies.

also Lexus SC400 or LS400

FWD supercharged 3800 GMs might be worth looking at.

early 2000s V6 Acuras?

V8 2wd Dakota?

E36 BMW?  ( which funny enough got a 4L30E GM auto trans in north america)

In the $2000 range, any automatic is likely to have accumulated a lot of wear, particularly if it's behind something with decent power.

I was thinking "The best car with a Buick 3800 supercharged motor you can find in that price range" myself. Just be sure the previous owner hasn't cranked up the boost at some point. A Ford MN12 platform car ought to be well in that price range as well.

E36 BMWs give up some of their fun factor with an automatic, but with a six cylinder it's not as bad as a Civic.

2000 Canuck Bucks (or 1000 toonies) is like 1,500 Uncle Sam Bills 

I would just open up Kijiji and sort to see what is in your area and choose the best available.  

Nothing in that price range in a car will be fun to drive, so go for a Cherokee.  $2K buys a decent one, look for no rust rather than low mileage.  The trans is bulletproof, they are torquey, and fun to drive in a simple, pure kinda way.
