The second thing I noticed was that he was in front of a fire hydrant. Where I used to live you would get a ticket in seconds for doing that. I guess that is one of the advantages to living in the suburbs.
Maybe it is just the picture, but it looks like the black softens the lines and front a bit.

Fire Hydrant is in my front yard. Law staes that I need to park a certain distance away. Being in the yard, that distance is covered!

I wonder if you could answer a question:
In the sales brochure under "safety features" a "smart stop technology SST," which is explained as "operates only in the event of simultaneous brake and gas pedal applications, when engaged, the system will reduce engine power to help the brakes bring the vehicle to a stop."
So I am very curious, can you rev match a downshift if say you are heel-toe-ing while braking? (or left foot braking if your that talented) and if not, can the system be turned off?
Thanks and congratulations,
Mike

Had to read that twice to figure it out. What I see is a spin doctor addressing the runaway Toyota scare that happpened a while ago. Go figure.
They sure made a big deal of explaining that I coud only have the summer or winter matts in the car and never to double up. I had to sign off that they had explained that.
Not sure about what will happen under the maneuver you describe, but ince I would need to die and be re-incarnated with a lot more co-ordination than I have, I will never know the answer!
I've heel and toe'd the FR-S around a racetrack with no problems. I'm not sure of the parameters of the system, but it never stepped in to bother me.
I also tried left foot braking in an Automatic equipped car on a short autocross course....again without issues. Granted, my left-foot braking is so uncoordinated and jerky I may not have noticed if the car's nannies stepped in a bit!
That comparison really describesthe size! That is just awesome. I pray more cars like this hit the market. I seriously think a ~250hp STi or TRD version could do a good job of pulling me away from my E36 M3. The current car probably cant, but I'd love to have one anyway!
Huh, I already wanted one, but it is really neat to see the size comparo. Shoot, want it even more now! Any word on Stock Class for SCCA autocross? Hope they put it somewhere it can do well.

I hope Nissan is nervous and quickly pushing something cool to market. (nah, that won't happen.....lower crack pipe back to ashtray)

It could happen! Mazda came out with the Miata, and BAM, only 20 years later we get this!

The FR-S/BRZ guys seem to be running in C-stock and doing well...

Well, to be fair, there was the MR2 Spyder. But no-one bought it. As I mention in my review, this car is not for everyone.
Part of the Miata's fame is due to the fact that they are as durable as cockroaches. That has resulted in a critical mass of cars that feed the Halo effect that these niche cars need to be a success.

Nissan needs to put their face on the Renaultsport Megane and sell it here as a VZR hatchback:

HEY! I have an MR2 S. It is a great car. Grant it is not the most practical thing. And there have been some durability issues but still is great fun to drive... However, we few here are the ones that would actually buy a completely impratical, semi unreliable (to toyota standards), convertible and drive it like its ass is on fire even in the middle of winter.

One of these showed up to our autocross on Sunday. Very small and sharp looking in person. Lots of interior space. The seat was sublimely good. The engine bay is TIGHT. Unfortunately the owner had an emergency come up and had to leave before running.
In reply to daytonaer:
My understanding is the SST only kicks in after ~1 second of sustained brake and throttle input. Basically enough of a delay to allow for left-foot braking and heel-toe.
Of course, of all the cars to have SST, why this one? Is grandma really buying an FR-S, especially one with a stickshift?
This may seriously be the car that finally convinces me to buy new. There was one at our autocross event in May and it did pretty well in the hands of a decent driver...
Is the SST defeatable like the similar system in the Mazda Miata/2?

Boy the Mustang looks like a pregnant pig in that picture. Sure, the Toybaru's engine is more compact, but also, it's far better packaging. OTOH, Mustang owners often like their car's bulk in the same way that truckers like a high hoodline.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm an atypical Mustang owner, but the reason I don't have an S197 in my driveway is because I think they're ridiculously huge. My foxbody is about as big as I want to go.

Looking at that picture, if Mazda would just graft the FRS roofline to the Miata, I would be there as soon as it came out. I feel like I am taking a major leap of faith durability-wise by switching to Toyobaru and the Miata is such a well known quantity. Since I tent to keep cars for ten years, it kinda matters a lot.
Why the hell Mazda never made a coupe version of the Miata is beyond me. It would hav made for an amazing car and shut the door on the Toyobaru and other newcomers.
This might be a buzzkill, but would be the odds of them building a 4 door on that chassis??
How is the back seat of the FR-S? I ask because I only have seen one in person, and that was a couple of weeks ago at the local Toyota dealer when we were dropping off my wife's Sienna for some work. I didn't really get a good look at it though as it was in a garage bay getting prepped for sale, so I could climb all over it like I wanted. I guess it was the first one they got, and it was the white color I would get and a 6 speed manual.
I have two younger boys aged 5 and 9 who are pretty small, but growing. Could I put them in the back seat easy enough for shorter trips?

For a tall driver, the front seat touches the back seat. More of a hypothetical back seat rather than a realistic one.
