That seems to be the normal type of photo on CL out here - black car, taken at night with a cellphone camera...

My mom used to say to my sister and me: “I never worry about you two being successful. Most people aren’t even trying”. It is the most cynical thing I ever heard her say. These ads kind of bear that out though.
It’s an oddly encouraging thought when I’m sitting at work thinking “I could have done that better”. I think about Mom and then think about the other people I know who do what I do for a living. Yeah, I’m doin’ fine.

I can say the same for dealers selling cars too. I looked at a 95 325i, I think, last night at one of the Ford dealers off Autotrader. The pics are decent for what I would expect for a $1700 car. There just wasn't many of them, 4 I think, so I clicked on the VIDEO......1:37-ish in, I found the drivers front window isn't attached to the regulator properly and it looks like the drivers rear window doesn't even move and is down inside the door. It made me say, "WTF, really? Seriously?". Even for $1700 at a dealer, I would expect better.

In an effort to not be outdone, I dutifully went to my local craigslist to find my version of the worst picture ever. Instead I found an E30 318i parts car for $250. No grill or seats, but supposedly the powertrain is intact. No pics at all.

What I like (I'm being sarcastic) are the ads that tell you everything you can already see in the poor pictures...like the color and how many doors, but DON'T include info like just how bad the "light" damage is to the side of the car they (purposely?) did not photograph. Or what their idea of LOW mileage is/means. If you have a 10 year old car with, say, 50K miles on the odo....why not just say "It has 50K miles on it". An ad I looked at recently, and I see this on E-Bay alot, claimed low mileage. It turned out they based the claim on the "new" engine that was recently installed. Sorry, it's not a "low mileage" machine, if every part EXCEPT the engine has 200K miles on it.
