Just replaced front struts and putter tierods on my 98 eclipse Spyder. Did a diy string alignment to the bed of my abilities. Took for a drive and noticed  the steering wheel was clocked a bit (maybe 1/8 revolution off). The car is shaking and tires are chirping almost violently on acceleration. Almost like a death wobble.

Is this from a horrible alignment or something t else going on. Eyeball test shows everything is buttoned up properly.

By changing the suspension parts, you altered the ride height and therefore the axle plunge in the inner CV joint.

Before, the rollers in the inner CV rode in basically one spot and wore depressions in the cup.  Now, at the different axle plunge, the rollers are walking in and out of those depressions, and the result is, well, what you got.

New axles will fix you right up.

Check the engine mounts too.

The ride height was not altered really. I've never heard of having to replace axles after changing shocks. Not saying you're wrong.

I will check engine mounts. They are all brand new. Possible a bolt has come loose.

This wasn't an issue until the test drive after replacing the struts and tie rods.

Trust me.  It happens all the time.  I had it happen just by changing camber on a vehicle with 210k miles on the original axles.

Tires chirping violently suggest you have greatly berkeleyed up your toe setting.

I’d get an alignment and then look at axles if the alignment doesn’t solve the issue.

Wow. I really thought you were out of left field with this but I believe you're  right. Research on the DSM forums shows people going through hell trying to find what's wrong with their cars with the final solution being...axles.

Thanks for the help. I'll let you know if new axles fix the issue.

If it only happens accelerating it's the axles

Glad to hear. Now that it's too late, another thing that can happen is when you do strut by pulling the spindle away from the strut you can unseat the inner CV joint and have it basically get 'cocked'. Sometimes even if you can get it reseated it's still bad at that point. Happened to me recently when i had some students do struts on a Honda. Had to replace the CV.
