They said they didn't see any soft tissue damage, but I know that doesn't mean much at this point.
Typing is pretty hard at this point. Could you email me at tom@ this website?

Hurts real bad. Lots of stuff is connected. Walking hurts and will for a while. Get lots of button up shirts because there's no way you're getting a shirt on. I had mine cut off. 16 years later it still is shaped weird.
I'm gonna vote surgery here. In 4 years in the ER I think we only had one collar bone look that bad and he got new hardware for his troubles.
Take the pain meds!! You don't impress anyone by being stoic (and usually crabby) trying to grit through the pain. Also take stool softeners. Seriously. You don't want to strain right now and narcotics are famous for slowing down gut motility so anything you can do to reduce back-pressure is a good idea. Oversized zipped/buttoned shirts for a bit.
Get used to the automatic for a bit. No shifting for you!

Oh yea, I forgot about that! Stool softener ftw! I didn't E36 M3 for a week and then I gave birth. Not awesome.

In the hospital if you don't do it they come in after it. After four days in ICU on morphine then Oxy I decided I was going to hold it until I could go without help. Thanksgiving evening Nurse Ratchet had two goons throw me on the bed and give me an enima while my inlaws stood on the hall and heard me yell "rape!" Good times. Being stubborn I was able to hold on a while after the enema too which really pissed off the nurse.
It's too bad you posted on here.
Then you could have waited until the parents got home, met them at the door all sewn up and said "Ok, here's what I think happened"
Three words for you

Maybe ice it until you can get in to the orthopedic surgeon, frozen peas or corn are convenient for this purpose. 20 minutes out of each hour. Don't take any aspirin or other NSAIDs. you are not supposed to take those right before surgery, and that is in your future. There are some very clever devices out there for working on shoulders. I have seen a tool that can drill a curved hole through a bone. This is handy, because the needles that sutures come on are generally curved.
Maybe get one of those electric toothbrushes. Brushing your teeth and combing your hair will be tough for a while. I don't think there is an electric comb yet, so you are on your own with the hair.
I've broken both of mine (the left one twice now) badly enough that each required surgery the first time. having a plate and 8 screws holding the works together does definitely stabilize it, and let me tell you when the nerve block wears off, if you haven't been taking enough pain meds to put your head in a low earth orbit, you will have a constant dull pain worse than the initial break ever was. after that initial mess is over with, the biggest thing that will hurt is finding the limits of your range of motion, or if you have to make sharp/fast movements
my third break (2nd time on the left one) didn't require surgery, as the plate that repaired the previous break kept everything more or less aligned (silver lining to everything...even bones!) so my recovery time was significantly shorter and less painful (not having to heal a large cut as well as a broken bone with holes in it). range of motion still took a little bit to get back, and they all seem to hurt a bit when the weather has a huge change.
Just rub a little 'tussin on it, be good to go in a little bit.
Seriously though, good luck on the healing.
My mom said she was heading over to your place with pain pills, stool softeners and brownies. I asked her if those were all one thing and she kind of laughed. At any rate, if it's three things all will help. I've dislocate and separated both shoulders, but never busted the collar, luckily. Big dude like me + hard landing and it would have looked a lot worse than that.
Should you have been more geared up or was it a casual/freak thing?
Did girls see you do it? If so tell the doctors. They'll make some of the scarring visible through the bandaging.

I'm assuming this was a result of one of those damn fixies?
Bummer that you'll lose the first bit of the summer. I hope it heals up fast. Looks like a helluva break.
I never had stool softeners. Not sure why, it was a long time ago and I don't remember doing that at all for a few days afterwards. I do remember taking 45 minutes just to arise from the bed the day after once I woke up, though. Another 30 just to get down the steps from the bedroom.
Ouch. Be like the Motogp riders and get that screwed together then hop back on the bike! That is an impressive break by the way.
email sent. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your labrum is ok, but based on the AC separation shown in the X-Ray it's 85%/15% on that one.
Talk to the parents about inviting some of the crazy readers over to help wrench on your projects and keep you company on the weekends while you're unable to wrench. It'll help with the frustration of projects sitting untouched and could even serve as a think-tank of ideas.
Get better soon, you have some rally tires to test.
Yes, got your email. Thanks, everyone. David, you sent a ton of awesome advice.
JG, your mom brought brownies but nothing else. Now I'm worried.
I was wearing a helmet and taking it easy, this was just bad luck more than anything. I rolled into a tabletop at about 3/4-speed, figuring I'd land comfortably on the flat top and keep pedaling. Unfortunately, they reconfigured the trail and turned it into a gap jump. I didn't see until I was already airborne. Front wheel caught the top of the jump and over the bars I went. I was about 6 inches from clearing it.
It's a shame, because we really were taking it easy.
On the bright side, the way the trial is configured means we only had to walk a few hundred feet back to the truck.
If you don't crash every once in a while, you are not going fast enough, next time remember to monkey roll
my email has some issues on receiving responses at times, so dzajano at gmail works as well if you need to reply and of course other contact info is in there as well.
One thing I forgot to mention and, your experience may vary, is you may want to also look into a large phone or tablet that uses a stylus. the reasoning being is the ability to do some work while on your back, sitting up and leaning forward causes a good amount of pain for me, but laying back and holding a light weight electronic device and tapping away at 1/3rd of the screen is much less painful. Voice to text is your friend and well, google's used to be rather dreadful, but I'm guessing that it's either learning my voice or I've adjusted my delivery to work with it.
Also if you have a fixed showerhead, get one with a hose extension, and massage function. There may be times that you're not allowed to use anti-inflammatories or muscle relaxers if getting follow up imaging. Hot water with a massage function on your shoulder and good ice packs will be the only thing making those times bearable.
Sorry to hear about your wreck. Don't worry though....I've got you a new bike. This one should be easier for you to handle......

I'm alreadty making great progress towards a beard. Cant really shave with my left hand, and Nicole has always wondered what I'd look like with a beard so she's no help.
