Woke up this morning (an hour early... Thanks, The Bat! -_- ) and realized that the furnace wasn't heating properly (again... we'd had a tech out last weekend). So I called up the HVAC company, and to my surprise they had an appointment slot with the higher-level tech that we needed starting just an hour from when I called. The tech showed up about halfway through the appointment window, and eventually determined that the core problem was simply a clogged water drain hose from the flue so all that needed to be done (seemingly- *fingers crossed*) was to un-clog the hose. I'd been expecting a much more costly fix (I figured the inducer was going out), so an essentially zero-cost fix- especially since this was considered an unresolved issue from the earlier visit so the usual service appointment fee should be waived- was a very pleasant surprise.
And I now have one more thing to check that I can easily fix myself the next time the furnace misbehaves...
The EXACT same thing happened to us last week. It's been an intermittent problem for the last year, and really, I should have figured it out
...and my twenty year old daughter just made it safely home from Reno to Ventura for the holidays.
Welcome home my little Honey Bunny....dad is going to spend stupid money on you!

Wellll I see what I'll be googling when I wake up in the morning! I ruled out the flame sensor and got stuck from there.

Posted this on Confessions, too, but the easy button for my furnace woes was a new air filter. Oh well. But handy.
Apparently lack of sufficient air flow lets the furnace "elements" get too hot so it shuts down.

So that one I did figure out.
Shortly after my current furnaces installation I had the same problem. I did some troubleshooting, pulled it apart and found the first heat exchanger plugged with animal hair. The tin whackers took the easy way out when it came to the filter size and location, and also put in the cheapest and most basic filter. Five animals in the house, that wasn't cutting it. I changed the location, doubled the size of the filter, and installed one that actually filtered. No problems since.
My memory is not what it used to be so I have a marker stuck to the side of the plenum and write the date on the filter when I install it (runs downstairs to check filter).
Mine was a bird building a nest in the air inlet, no air coming in chokes the output; who would have guessed.
Took a deep breath (because it's a potentially life altering decision), bit the bullet, pressed the button and submitted my application for US citizenship.
So far, I received confirmation that I gave the government money. Hopefully this'll turn into a minor win in the next 7-8 months.
Neighbour helped me drive a bunch of fence posts a couple of summers ago. The trade was I had to get his Dad's old dune buggy running. He dug it out of his barn this past spring and brought it to my place. It needed everything done but today he drove it home. He's happy so I'm happy.

I was worried that this was going to be a slow month, considering the holidays and whatnot.
Now there's 6 snowmobiles and a 52 Buick in my shop...
My son has had a rocky start as an adult. His first job didn't work out, struggles with too much weed and booze, one failed attempt at college..... Well in the last two years he's returned to college, is running about a 3.9 GPA, and has a great girlfriend. He just took off for a well-earned vacation in the Philippines, which he's paying for himself. (Okay, I bought him a new suitcase ). As a father, I can't express how relieved I am to see him gain some traction in life.
In reply to ShawnG :
I read that as 52 Buicks. Which would be a lot.

December's credit card bill was 2/3 of what I expected.

Mine was 3/2 what I was hoping.
On the bright side I found my 18V impact.
Have you ever used something all day then go to grab it and it's nowhere to be found? Then you obsess over it for 3 days, searching the same few places 16 times a day, even though you don't really need it because you have a spare? Me either.

Found a 100' power drain auger for sale in town for only a little more than a plumber would charge me to come do the job for me.
Hope it works.
After searching for literally years to find an undamaged driver's side front door panel for my 2010 Tahoe, I see that Dorman has come out with a door pull repair kit for 07-13 Tahoes and Suburbans. Every door card I found all had the same broken door pull as mine.
Almost 3 years of using a length of PVC pipe and zipties.

I bought the kit on the jungle website for about $90. Sure beats a $400+ door card.
When I saw the Seinfeld episode, where things kept working out for Jerry, and Kramer called him Even Steven, I laughed and said, that's me!
Septic guy went way above and beyond on Christmas Eve, definitely saving me heartache the next day. It wasn't easy for my cheap ass to do, but I tipped him $100, totally made his day.
Later that night I was looking for a pen in my side table and found an envelope under a bunch of stuff with $200 in it.
That E36 M3 happens to me all the time.
* Edited: I really need to make my stories a lot shorter
When you work for a huge company sometimes you take a position because the company needs you in that spot, sometimes you take one because it's what you need. For the past few months I have been in a position that they need me and I am completely suited for it and in the right place in my life to do. That is where work magic happens for me. I am so happy getting to do super interesting work and I know without doubt that I am uniquely qualified to do it which is having a really positive impact on the project I am working.
This may be the happiest I have ever been with work. Certainly the happiest I have been at work in 15 years.
80lbs of Legos ( sorry Adrian) for $75. Nailed multiple smaller auction Christmas Day. Everyone freaks for the 20+ pound auctions, so they ignore the smaller ones. Seven 10+ pound auctions and here we are. Hellspawn is stoked. Lego typically runs $10-$15/lb. This should be $800 or $900.
