CNN is reporting Anthony Bourdain is dead at 61. Apparently suicide.......
Battled all sorts of addictions through life, smoked and drank a bit too much, but never expected this.

Some dude from the Sons of Anarchy series as well: Alan O'Neill dead at 47
June is off to a rough start.
berkeleying suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
I feel terrible for what his daughter and the rest of his friends and family are going through.
Lost one of the worlds best story tellers. He was an inspiration for many around the world. What a bummer.
Been a fan of his for many years. Saw this news this morning, today is my grandfathers funeral. Wtf.

Same here. Always went to cool places, showed you the local stuff, hedonist and great storyteller.
Yeah... It's not like I knew him or anything, but I really enjoyed his shows and books. I'm bummed he won't be adding anything else to the world's supply of cool stuff, I'm sad for folks who were close, and I'm sad that he's just not existing in the world any more. Everybody's worse off for it.
He was very inspirational to me. I can remember the first time I ever caught an episode of A Cook's Tour, the one where he and his brother revisit their childhood home in France. I was hooked. His books are fantatsic, his dark wit unrivaled (maybe Carlin....). His cynical snark second to none. He will be missed.
He left something very good behind.

I'll be glad when people stop using that tired old phrase. Calling it a temporary problem trivializes what people with severe depression are going through.

As someone who suffers from it and has considered that as a solution in the past? This phrase has helped me greatly, so maybe you shouldn't assume something doesn't work for everyone, just because it might not for you.
In reply to Stefan :
We'll have to agree to disagree, then...I suffer from depression too and have considered the alternatives, but that phrase just makes me mad because it's usually trotted out by people who have no concept of the problem.

I wish it was only a temporary problem. For some, it's quite permanent.
Anthony did some great work opening up the world to new ideas and cultures. His restaurant recommendations around the wall were top notch.

Suicide is the only way to guarantee you're miserable for the rest of your life.
I can't say I've ever watched his show, but I know who he was. Mental illness does not care about money or fame. RIP.
In reply to John Welsh :
I'll share about what an amazing man and friend he was when the pain stops. Today berkeleying sucks though. I've felt numb and cold since finding out. Tomorrow I'm getting up early and going to the local farmer's market to enjoy breakfast from local vendors, then I'm having pastrami on rye for lunch to pay homage. I'm still in disbelief.
I'm gutted and I never met the man, i can't imagine what his friends and family are gong through. RIP and my deepest condolences Captdownshift.
He was a true mensch, someone who made the world a bigger, better place for many in America. I'm sorry to see he suffered so much with depression, and my deepest sympathy for the terrible loss for those who knew him personally.
I hope anyone who is in our little community here knows that, even in your darkest times there are plenty of people here who care about you, who want to lend a hand and an ear when it's difficult.
