I was headed to a job this afternoon and had stopped at a red light, two cars back from the line. It turned green and as I was pulling off, I hear sirens. I slow and start looking for the emergency vehicle. Just as I get to the line, a black sedan came flying into the intersection and broadsides the lead car. The whole mess piles into the base of the overpass we were about to go under. Call it 40' in front of me. Black car was hauling ass. Seconds later, 3 NCPD cars slide into the intersection and 4 officers bail out, guns drawn, shouting at the occupants of the black car and shouting for everyone else to back up.
I immediately pop the truck in reverse and back up as far as I can without hitting the car behind me. A gap opened up beside me and I cut a u-turn and GTFO.
That was pretty intense to say the least.
Obviously a police chase that ended poorly. I hope the innocent car wasn't seriously injured. That was a extremely hard hit.
Damn, E36 M3s been gettin' crazy out there
hope the innocents are OK
anymore, there are days I don't wanna leave the berkeleying yard

Okay pretty sure I remember you having a dash cam from the infamous skirt vid thread. Where's the video man???!
In reply to Cotton:
I do, and I'm pretty pissed that it apparently hasn't recorded anything since January even though it always has a flashing red light saying it's recording.
I'm shopping for a new one as I'm typing this.

Let me know what you end up with. I'm thinking about getting one as well.

I've had good luck with the 'mini 080#' series. I think they are up to 0809(?)
You can usually find them sold by 'foxoffer' on ebay or follow the best purchase link on dashcamtalk
I was sitting at a red light in Maryville TN on the way back to the shop after a long day. All of a sudden an unmarked unit comes sliding in blocking the road to the right of me and a marked unit comes from behind us and blocks the road to the left. Lights but no sirens. Just after that I heard sirens in the distance. About a second after a sedan comes flying, literally four wheels of the ground, over the bridge in front of me followed closely by five police units. The driver looked right at me as he flew past, there was three other people in the car. The two traffic blockers fell in behind the pursuit. I need the crash before my light turned green. He hit a telephone pole about a block behind me. It was so surreal.
Found out on the news they were meth heads that committed an armed robbery of a drug store and caused five traffic accidents prior to crashing.

Might be the MicroSD card. Same thing happened to me, looked like it was working, plugged the card into my PC and the files were a month old with no recents. Tried formatting/deleting and it seemed to work, only to have the files reappear. Missed 2 car fires and some other exciting footage thanks to Sandisk's craptacular memory card. I have Samsung Evo+ on all my dash cams now.
In reply to DuctTape&Bondo:
I'll have to check into that. I formatted the card a couple of hours ago, so we'll see what happens. This is the second time it's screwed up a recording though. It may just be time for a new camera. The heat seems to cook them in a year or so.
Probably needs a new SD card. Constant writing is hard on them.
I've led a pursuit by accident before. Might've got away without ever knowing there were cops chasing me if just the right pattern of traffic hadn't held me up forever in one spot, giving the cops a chance to catch up.
(That might've started a manhunt for me though, because they thought I was fleeing an armed robbery)

I recall a chase going by me probably in 2000. On the interstate(NY 17/I 86 Eastbound, shortly before the Broome/Tioga county line)some white 80's fwd Chevy sedan, iirc, passed us at a good pace. Followed shortly by multiple cop cars. Another few miles up they had been pulled over.
If we lived in the "good old days" when leading the police on a chase and getting caught meant a night in jail, I'd love to give it a go. But these days I suspect felony charges and loss of.......well, everything. Keep me from wanting to make a run for it.
Must be my seeing "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Dukes of Hazard" upbringing.
I was at a car meet one night on one of the main roads in Murfreesboro, TN and we hear a bunch of sirens in the distance. We all turn to watch as a very unhealthy late 90s explorer with the engine screaming sounding like it's giving all it's got come by at about 60, with four of the new caprices on his back bumper. It wasn't quite as exciting
Saw one coming at us somewhere in PA. The car being chased crossed the median and hit a fully loaded 18 wheel autocar pulling a dump trailer it was like a bomb went off. We will never know but there was speculation that it was on purpose.
Nothing more dangerous than someone with nothing to loose and no care for who they take with them on there way out.
Also in Murfreesboro, TN Dec 28th, 9:30 AM ish. Troopers chased a Mitsubishi right into me. High speed chase in a residential area, near the college. The other car ran. Here's a pic of my car afterwards. Happy days.
so, is that treated like any other accident as far as insurance goes?

Mostly. Filed as uninsured motorist (car was stolen). PITA there was a thread. Took months to sort out. Still in subrogation.
I dug up some info on the chase.
It was a stolen car. They got the guy, charged him with the car theft, possession, and a whole list of charges related to the chase. He will probably be out in a couple of weeks.
There were no injuries in the accident. It apparently looked a lot worse than it was.

I saw a real live police chase in rural Atglen PA last fall. Driving my work truck eastbound on a country road, a young guy in a Hyundai accent hatch comes screaming around the bend, headed westbound. As it past me it sounded like it was bouncing off the rev limiter in a low gear. As I came around the bend two local PD cruisers were coming westbound with lights and sirens. I actually heard the sirens before I came to the bend and slowed a bit and went wide, which was good, because one of the cruisers was well over the center line. About a mile up the road a State Trooper in a new Taurus was headed westbound to join the party.
I suspect it didn't end well for the guy in the Hyundai. I didn't go back to check.
