It's a lotta green (I like green) but it is different.
If you’ve been eyeing an 8C Competizione but wish you could have something more exclusive, perhaps this Alfa Romeo Disco Volante is what you’re really after.
Named after the 1900 C52 “Disco Volante” (Italian for “Flying Saucer”) experimental race cars built by Alfa Romeo in the early 1950s, the modern Disco Volante is based on the already exclusive 8C Competizione and was built by Carrozzeria Touring.
Considering that only seven were built, it's unusual to see one go up for sale. And now one currently is available at a Ferrari dealership in Switzerland.
Said to be No. 4 out of the seven, this Disco Volante is finished in a Verde British Racing exterior over a matching leather and Alcantara interior.
Like the 8C upon which it’s based, this car features a 4.7-liter V8 that sends its 450 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic. Reportedly, the car is also capable of a sprint to 60 mph in under 5 seconds.
No price is mentioned on the dealer’s website, but considering that new 8Cs started at a little over $300,000, this rare Carrozzeria Touring-built Disco Volante is likely priced to match its prominence.
