Building a front engine mount when you don’t have one

Photography by Tim Suddard

We had a new engine cradle, complete with bushings, for our Elva Mk VI sports racer. Now we needed a way to mount the cradle to the frame.

Our Elva buddy shared pictures of his front mount, and we duplicated it in the same tubing spec used to build the frame.

To add a bit of strength, we used a supplemental diagonal tube to help spread the load through more of the frame.

At this point, we have the mount tacked into place and we will weld or braze it completely once we take the drivetrain back out of the car again.
