We now needed a mount for our Elva’s passenger seat. Unfortunately, we don’t know what the original one looked like.
[Fabricating an Elva passenger seat–by replicating the driver seat]
Somewhere along the line, most of the mounts had been removed from the chassis of our Elva Mk VI sports racer. We found some photos that helped give us clarity, with one showing an upper seat mount that looked similar to the lower mount.
We figured it was time to design and build those new upper mounts from some 1/8-inch scrap we obtained from a local machine shop that was closing. This stock had a nice curve to it that should add strength and stability.
As usual, we started the process with CAD: cardboard aided design.
We finished this job by adding diagonal bracing to these upper mounts. While this would not have been original, it would certainly add strength during high-g cornering and prevent an unfortunate mishap.
