We wanted a high-torque, lightweight starter for our Elva sports racer. This car is one of 30 made and is powered by a nearly as rare Coventry Climax FWA power plant.
Should be easy to find the correct starter, right?
Actually, it was.
We talked to Michael’s Vintage Racing as they race a lot of FWA-powered cars. They sold us a three-synchro starter from WOSP designed for an MGA and MBG. The part No. is LMS002. The price? About $200.
As promised, this starter perfectly fit our adapter plate, correctly lined up with the ring gear and has, apparently, solved our starter problem.
