A chance to see–and hear–some legendary Mazda race cars? And for free?

Welcome to the 17th annual Race Exhibition at Orlando’s Classic Mazda. We’ve been attending since the earliest days.

So, why’d we take our 1984 Porsche 911 and not a Miata? Because the evening has grown beyond Mazdas, with space reserved for other local groups. Among them? Legends of Orlando, the group for pre-2000 imports. (The same morning, we did the cars and coffee at Not Another Film Lab, so we were combining errands.)

We parked our Porsche next to a Mazda rotary pickup and then checked out the 767B and RX-792P from the Mazda Motorsports Heritage Collection, plus rows of Miatas, old-school imports and other faves.

Also, a little behind the scenes:

Why so few people surrounding the orange and green 767B? Don’t Mazda fans care about the brand’s history?

The show officailly opened at 5:00.

Those parking in the Legends section were told to be there at 3:00.

That meant two hours to have the place more or less to ourselves. Eventually, though, it was packed in there.
