Our Christmas gift to each other is a long weekend away over the Presidents' Day weekend. Keeps Christmas spending down, and gives us a break when we really need it.

You must be a cool wife. If you weren't, he wouldn't want to arm you!
Joey
Four days in Vegas big suite in a non smoking, no gambling, no kids hotel. She goes to the spa and sits by the pool, I go shoot guns and find fancy restaurants I want to try.
Though I did get her the big kindle fire HD, and a set Ray Bans for under the tree.
Got her a nice sweatshirt and a CD she wanted.
When in doubt. I find that getting people some sort of consumable thing is a good bet. Good food, fine booze, some meal out, trip, spa treatment, massage, concert tickets. All good things that aren't "just more stuff".
Front row to a show in Chicago (I figure if you're gonna go, get the best seats you can) and a vintage Rolex (cooler and not much more than a new seiko)..
I like the consumables idea, bedsheets and asking her what she wants.
I bought my wife a mustang. With a couple hundred bucks left over to still do a GRM challenge! :D
This. We had "Christmas" two nights ago, 'cause she's working 12 hour shifts all weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun), we're busy on Monday, Christmas with my folks on Tuesday, back to work for both of us on Wednesday. She's STOKED about the shotgun, went straight in and started looking up regulations on goose hunting.
I need to absorb some more of this thread specifically the consumables ideas.
I have been making the mistake of getting her electronic devices and games. She has been on the google tablet (early xmas gift exchange) I got her non stop instead of her duties like cleaning and laundry.
She got a nice house with a large, flat yard, and I got a two car attached garage (with room for a detached down the road). Best (and most expensive) Christmas gift ever!
The wedding band that she wanted 3.5 years ago, but I couldnt afford. For the record, platinum and diamond prices really have shot up. She also got some Pandora, books, and season 1 of Archer.
Apple 4s and trip between Xmas and New Year to St Augustine Fla. The beach is always popular no matter how long she gets to stay or how bad the weather is. Plus we will be back in Fla for the 24hr.
A puppy. Brought her home last night. A total surprise. She has been wanting one and about a week ago I told her I really didn't think it was a good idea. She fell for it, and thought there was going to be no puppy.
Get her a Coach wallet in her favorite color. Avoid the pimptastic trendy crap that they have on display, and look for the plain, classic leather ones. They come in a huge variety of colors, they are beautifully luxurious, and they will last for decades.
I sound like a horrible...but a cast iron griddle and a gym membership. Yes, she wanted both.
reason (partially defending myself)
the griddle? She cooks for 5, soon to be 6 (when the baby starts eating solids)
the gym? She wants to feel better about herself and it will give her a couple hours of kidfree time a week.
The weekend away without the kids/job responsibilities are always a great option. Groupon has some wonderful deals out there too. Just an idea for the future....especially if you make the overnight arrangements for the kidlets too.
I led on like I wasn't getting her anything until late, but she saw when I brought the little box in and put it on the pile, so she now knows I got her a DSW giftcard (she's shoe-crazy)
She doesn't know how much it is so she won't find out til she calls to check the balance. I'm hoping she thinks it's like $20 so she gets pleasantly surprised.
I gave up buying shoes for her because she is picky and I'm not good at getting things that fit right anymore lol
I was going to get her a bowling ball with my name engraved on it. However after seeing it fail for both Fred Flintstone and Homer Simpson.
I decided that since she is on her feet 8-10 hours a day (she works in a medical lab) and always complains about how much her feet, ankles, knees, and back hurt.
I decided to get her some custom made shoes. They are a bit pricey. Around $300 for the pair. But that includes consultation (they ask what hurts). Then make a custom mold of her feet, then she picks a style of shoe she likes. It takes a few days... But they build custom shoes tailored to her feet that are guaranteed for 3 years. Great thing is, they are built to a much higher standard than the junk that is built in China.
Also for the geeks out there they use a laser video modeling system to map each foot. Then use a CNC Mill to crate the shoes.
