That car is stupid, as it's not a suzuki swift or a bike, and was, at some point, new.

My first and only new car is a 1996 Nissan 200SX SE-R. Its been modified and competed in the One Lap of America 4 times. Still have it but since getting married and having kids its really become a monument in my driveway. =(.

My newest car was the WRX, and that was 8 years old when I got it. Still felt pretty new to me.

1988 Dodge Aries. I was 21, just had a baby the 2 door Charger had to go. (81 Charger, glorified Omni)

Was looking at used 4 door cars at the dealer and of course got talked into new. It was an ugly blue box. But it was a reliable ugly blue box. Drove that car hard for 6 or 7 years it never let me down. Then I needed a bigger box and got a Dodge Caravan.

^Exactly this. If you make a wise purchasing decision, there's no reason your new car can't serve your needs for a long time, thus minimizing the effects of depreciation. If you take care of your car, that new car smell hangs around a long time! I would suggest that the bunch of you that feels the need to buy a new 1000 dollar beater every six months might just have some commitment issues!

2002 Sentra SER Spec V, Black with Red like this one, but no sunroof and no Rockford Fosgate crappy stereo.

I really liked that car, but would never buy another black DD. Too much work to keep clean.

2001 Ford Focus ZX3. I was driving back and forth around the country working in Wyoming and Texas and Louisiana and living out of hotels. Being where I was supposed to be was part of the job and breaking down was not cool. Fuel pump went out on the 300k Dakota that I was driving and it was indeed,not cool. Gave that truck to my brother and bought the Focus. Commuted and autocrossed in it for a year and then brought my first baby home in it and drove her around and autocrossed for another year. It was retired to my wife as a commuter and continued autocross car for the next few years. She finally got tired of it at 130k and we sold it to my brother. He's well over 200k now and it's still the reliable car in his family. Word on the street is that it's likely to be my niece's car when she turns 16 in a few months. That car was worth every penny.

After coming back from korea and before iraq i needed something and a suzuki dealer was the 1st place my friend took me, was alright basic transportation.

never owned a new car. i've never actually bought anything that was less than 7 or 8 years old at time of purchase.

Closest I've gotten to new was a 2002 WRX in 2009. Might be buying a new Fiesta soon though, the used one's aren't deprecating much and it's difficult to find a manual with the options I'm looking for.

I've never bought a new car, but this is identical to the '06 350Z which I bought after coming back from Iraq/Germany in 2009.

2002 Chevy Malibu. I needed a car for the missus, who for a while after our marrige was going to be commuting 150 mi a day until her transfer came through. we were looking at something small like a Focus or Protege but the dealer was desperate to get rid of this. They took about 3k off the price while we were on the test drive, and one more when we were waiting on paperwork. Add in 5 year 0% and ik couldn't say no. 10 years and 311k later it still sits in my driveway ready to go. I will probably keep it until it rusts away.

2005 Mustang GT, you can see it in my reader's rides entry. Still have it (obviously) and plan to for quite a while. I drove it off the lot with 42 miles on the clock, now it's close to 90k and paid off.

It's probably the last BRAND NEW vehicle I'll buy b/c of depreciation, but there is a certain degree of logic when buying a popular cheap sports car to buy new. Because I, like everyone else who bought one, ran the POOP out of it right off the lot. At least I know I'm the only one who's pounded on it!

1967 SAAB 96 with the V4 engine. Drove it for 2 years, 30 mile round trip to work each day and then a 400 mile round trip back home each weekend.

1984 Dodge Shelby Charger - and a fun machine it was ...

2003 TDi wagon (in my readers rides). Bought new mainly because I couldn't stomach the asking prices for used TDi's back in 2002. It's been my daily driver ever since and likely will for the next dozen years or so. A half-million shouldn't be a problem.

2003 MINI Cooper S. Still have it, still love it.

'85 Cavalier Type 10, 2.0l, 4 speed stick, red with gray interior. MSRP $7777. Three years later, it got totaled from behind by a drunk driver.
