Wait, wait, did the Ferrari 308 feature a fiberglass body or a steel one? Answer: It depends.
While the first hundred or so examples feature fiberglass bodies, the bulk of the cars delivered received steel coachwork. This 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB is one of the first steel-bodied cars, mixing the later body with the earlier induction setup.
“This particular example is a rare, early steel bodied carbureted car, manufactured November 1976, and specified for US delivery,” states Fantasy Junction, the seller, who's asking $69,500 for it. “According to the serial number, the car appears to have been one of the few steel bodied cars constructed during the transition period from fiberglass to steel bodies, while still retaining the highly desirable carbureted engine. Unlike the manufacturing inconsistencies often seen in fiberglass surfacing, this steel body retains a refined finish and excellent panel gaps, set off by the thin European front bumper, fit to the car by a previous owner, and early series details.”
