Our top 14 favorites from Monterey Car Week

Monterey Car Week brings out some of the most special vehicles from all corners of the world. It’s also one of the few places where you catch yourself saying, “Oh, it’s just another Ferrari or it’s just another Lamborghini.” Despite the abundance of low-production cars, some vehicles still stand out. Here are 14 that caught the eye of our publisher Tim Suddard and senior editor J.A. Ackley.

 

14. 1969 Citroën DS-21 at the Concours d’Lemons

Concours d’Lemons is always fun. Worst of Show this year went to this crazy wagon dressed up to look like the Yellow Submarine of Beatles fame. –Tim

13. 1953 Kurtis Sorrell SR-100 Roadster at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

This particular example had not been seen in public for more than 70 years. It won the American Dream Cars of the ’50s class. –J.A.

12. 1970 Porsche 914/6 Coupe Murène by Heuliez at the Classic Motorsports Monterey Kickoff

A one-off prototype that almost became the look of the Porsche 914/6 in the early ’70s. It won the Editor’s Choice award. –Tim

11. 1967 Bizzarrini Strada 5300 at The Quail and Concorso Italiano

They made only 133 of these, and this is one fine example. Simply a beauty. Won the Eye on Italian Design award at The Quail. –J.A.

10. 2025 Ford Mustang GTD at The Quail

Wow. Just wow. A 800-horsepower Mustang, a street-legal track car for the well-heeled. –Tim

9. 1963 Porsche 901 Prototype “Quickblau” at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

This is the first Porsche owned by Alois Ruf Jr., who still has it. Yes, that’s the Ruf behind Ruf Automotive. Won the Porsche 75th Anniversary class at Pebble Beach. –J.A.

8. Porsche DLS Turbo reimagined by Singer at The Quail

While a tad pricey, what a badass-looking car. –Tim

7. 1991 Jaguar XJR-15 at the Classic Motorsports Monterey Kickoff and The Quail

What’s there not to like? Performance. Style. Rarity (1 of 28 made, 1 of 3 not in blue). Won Best in Show at the Kickoff. –J.A.

6. 1969 Maserati Ghibli 4.7 Spider Conversion at Gooding & Company

Gorgeous color and presentation. It sold for $445K, so we weren’t the only ones who liked it. –Tim

5. 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

Highly original, down to its tires. (Don’t worry, they don’t drive on them.) It is used as a master reference for the 300 SL. Won the Postwar Preservation class. –J.A.

4. 1960 Buick Invicta restomod at Motorlux and The Quail

The shape of these cars are so cool, and this restomod was very well done. –Tim

3. 1906 Locomobile at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

When this car won the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup, it became the first American car to win an international road race in the U.S. It still has the original body and paint, too. –J.A.

2. 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 Concept Car at Broad Arrow Auctions.

If Olds had something like the Corvette, this could have been it. It sold for $1,765,000. –J.A.

1. RM Sotheby’s Lost & Found Collection
